It’s like clockwork. Every year. We hit mid-June and a some people simply cannot stop themselves from setting off fireworks. For me, it started last night. That means if you have a dog that is afraid of fireworks, you should prepare NOW.

Keep those collars and tags on and keep those microchips updated. A frozen Kong full of peanut butter can be a wonderful distraction. Call the vet and get some calming meds if needed. There is no shame in bringing comfort to your scared dog. In fact, it is your job.

Especially if this is your first Independence Day with your new pup, it’s hard to know how they’ll react. If you insist on going to watch fireworks, leave your pup at home with white noise and something to distract them. What a nightmare to be a dog who is afraid of fireworks and have an owner who insists on dragging you to a crowded event to watch them.
