Everyone please welcome, Chandra, to the Live Oak Animal Hospital family! Chandra is a native of Atmore and is not new to the world of veterinary medicine. This lovely lady has about 32 years of experience working in a vet clinic. When we say she “knows the ropes”, we mean it! To be exact, Chandra was a junior in high school when her career path began. She has held the role of both veterinary assistant and practice manager over the years. We aren’t going to put dates here… She is still a spring chicken!🐔

When Chandra is not at work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She loves a water view from a nice lounge chair whether it be the beach, lake, or the river. She, her wonderful husband, Chad, and their daughters share 6 dogs🐕 (Andy, Ellie Mae, Millie, Dutton, Roscoe, and Duke), 4 cats 🐈(Ollie, Taz, Gus Gus, and P***y), and a horse named Bo.🐎

Lauren may be a familiar face to Bay Minette locals, but we would like to give a little insight on our ‘sweet as pie’ veterinary assistant.

Lauren is a Bay Minette native and graduated from Baldwin County High School. She is currently a student at Coastal Alabama Community College (Go Yotes!). She plans to transfer to Auburn (War Eagle!🦅)and pursue a major in Animal Science. Lauren is studying to become a future veterinarian!

When she finds time between class, studying, and working, Lauren recharges her batteries by spending time with friends on the river. She has 🐱🐱 (Kitty and Cornflake), 🐶🐶(Lucy and Daisy), and a field full of 🐮 that occupy her free time as well. Lauren cites her dad as her hero. She states that he pushes her to be the best version of herself. We’d say his influence is working 😉!

Little fun fact about Lauren… She spent a few years dancing as a Tigerette 🐅 for BCHS! 👯‍♀️

💉🐾Vaccinations and Your Pet🐾💉

Let’s talk vaccinations and why they are important to not only keep your pet safe, but mankind safe as well.

- Vaccines for various illnesses have been around for decades, and evidence-based medicine has proven vaccines to prevent life threatening illnesses. Unvaccinated pets are at a high risk of contracting illnesses from other unvaccinated infected pets or even wildlife (Vaccinations, n.d.).🦝🦊

- Recently, our area has experienced a confirmed rabid fox encounter with humans leading to an exposure. Why is this scary? The rabies virus comes with a death policy, because once symptoms appear death is typically imminent. Treatment must start immediately to prevent death. Rabies is a virus that is spread through saliva from an infected animal to another animal or human. There is no known cure for this illness. Due to the severe nature of this virus, prevention through vaccination is key in controlling outbreaks (Hankins & Rosekrans, 2004).

- We at Live Oak Animal Hospital recommend vaccinating your pets and livestock for illness prevention. Choosing to vaccinate prevents costly bills for treatment of preventable illness and even loss of life. We are here to educate you and protect you and your 4-legged friends with the best possible care. ❤️

📞Call us today at (251) 325-8738 for more information regarding vaccines and schedule an appointment with Dr. Palmer. We look forward to seeing you!🐕🐾🐈
