❄️ Keep bedding dry — Clean, absorbent bedding helps cattle stay warm and conserve energy.
❄️ Increase feed & hay — Cattle may need up to 20% more feed in cold, wet weather.
❄️ Block the wind — Wind chill impacts cattle too; windbreaks make a big difference.
❄️ Ensure fresh water — Provide constant access to clean, ice-free water.

Wondering how to best introduce new chicks to your flock? 🐥🐔
Here are a few tips to help make introductions smoother and less stressful for everyone:

👥 Introduce in groups — There’s safety in numbers. Adding at least 3 chicks helps prevent the flock from ganging up on a single newcomer.
👀 Keep chicks separate but visible — Let the flock see, hear, and smell new chicks first. Getting acquainted without physical contact leads to calmer introductions.
🌙 Add chicks at night — Once the flock has gone to roost and had prior exposure, adding chicks overnight reduces surprise and tension in the morning.
🤝 Choose compatible breeds — Mixed flocks are usually fine, but single-breed flocks may single out a different breed more easily.
🧩 Provide distractions — Straw bales, leaves, flock blocks, or toys give chickens something else to peck and scratch instead of each other.
🍽️ Set up extra food & water — Additional stations reduce competition and give new chicks a safe place to eat and drink.
