Rain or shine, our Pets For Life staff and volunteers are hard at work providing essential pet care services to the Baton Rouge community!

Just this week, they provided spay/neuter services, heartworm testing, vaccines, and heartworm/flea prevention to their clients! Thanks to our new Mobile Vet Clinic, our Pets For Life team is able to break down even more barriers for pet owners.

We also crossed a huge milestone this week: puppy Klaus (pictured), was the first puppy to receive a neuter surgery in our Mobile Vet Clinic!

We truly couldn't do this without the support of our community and volunteers!

This 5 year old Pomeranian mix is 15lbs of fluff and ready to find a cozy lap to nap in! He enjoys basking in the sun and taste testing treats. Huckleberry is sure to be your best friend but will need a bit of TLC to help with some mats in his coat.

Happy FriYAY! Meet Spacey!

This gorgeous girl is a year and a half old with the sweetest personality. Spacey takes a little time warming up to new people, but once she does- she will soak up all the pets you'll give her. She loves to be pet all over and you'll know she's enjoying herself when she goes to work making little biscuits! Loud noises and fast movements can freak her out, but she simply reacts by finding comfort in her hidey holes. Spacey also gets along well with other cats, dogs, and kids, making her an easy and comforting addition to any family.

Did you know that black cats have the lowest adoption rate at just 10% compared to other cats? In collaboration with the Baton Rouge Gallery, we'll be hosting an adoption special from 4/25 to 4/27. During this time, all of our ready-to-go cats, including our black cats, will have WAIVED ADOPTION FEES!

And don't miss the showing of the Oscar-winning film, Flow, provided by the Baton Rouge Gallery! It will be a night of family fun with free popcorn, activities for kids, and a live performance of the original score by the Baton Rouge Music Studios.

Meet Wednesday!

This adorable 5 month old girl just returned from foster care and is ready to find her forever home! Her foster mom shared with us, "She might be shy and timid at first, but give her some time and she’ll be following you around the house 24/7 asking for you to play with her. She loves the teddy bear squeaky toys (her blue one specifically) and bananas. She knows it’s not okay to use the bathroom in the house or in her crate, but pay attention to her for when she has to go- she's still learning the ins and outs of potty training. She walks really well on the leash, every now and again she’ll bite at the leash if it rubs against her, but other than that she's awesome. She sometimes gets carsick, so just be mindful of how you’re driving with her in the car. She takes baths pretty well too, you won’t have to fight her in the tub. She likes to bite/nibble when it comes to playing around, but telling her to be gentle usually calms her down. If you have hard time with her trusting you to pet her or even come close to her, try getting down to her level, she finds it less intimidating when we are no longer standing above her. Wednesday is a wonderful dog and deserves a loving family who has time and is patient with her!!"

Let's start the day off with a dose of vitamin C - meet Tangerine!

Tangerine is a 1 year old, gentle sweetheart with a heart full of love! He tends to start off with new people a little nervous but quickly warms up. With great leash manners and a chill energy level, Tangerine is more of a leisurely stroller who enjoys taking his time to sniff and explore. He’s likely potty trained, and while he’s still learning basic commands, he’s eager to please. Tangerine loves cuddling, giving kisses, and watching the world go by from the window. He can be a bit cautious around new things and loud noises, but his affectionate, loving personality shines through.

The more orange cats, the merrier!

This is Creamsicle! She's a one year old sweetheart looking for a companion to love her as much as she'll surely love them! She's very affectionate and loves to be constantly pet. She also loves to play and explore outside. She may be an adventurer but she's a cuddle bug at heart! Creamsicle has lived with many other cats before and gets along with everyone wonderfully! She'll even tolerate dogs once she gets to know them.

Creamsicle is not quite ready for adoption yet; she'll be having her spay surgery soon and then will be ready to go home! In the meantime, come by and get to know her! She might just be the perfect match for you :)

Looking for your future feline friend? Meet Kyle!

Kyle is a sweet 6 year old orange tabby and is the most affectionate boy you'll ever meet! He's known the comforts of home for most of his life, but found himself at our shelter at the beginning of April. He loves to be all over his person and he'll head butt you whenever he wants more attention! Kyle is very curious of his surroundings and loves to look out windows while exploring as much as he can! He's very chill and would make for a very cuddly companion!

Introducing a pup truly out of this world - meet Milky Way! 💫

Milky Way is the ultimate chill buddy in dog form. Think Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh—sweet, gentle, and totally content just going with the flow. She’s a low-energy girl who thrives when life is calm and slow, and her happy place is a quiet walk where she can take everything in at her own pace.
She does great on a leash and usually walks at your side the whole time. She’ll glance back with those big, soulful eyes, just to check that you’re still there. When it’s time to relax, Milky Way is a pro. Whether she’s curled up next to you on the couch or stretched out on the cool floor, she’s perfectly happy just being close. She’s not one to beg or fuss—she’s actually not all that into treats or people food—but she is all about the quiet connection.
Her eyes say it all. There’s a real sense of gratitude in the way she looks at you, like she’s genuinely thankful just to be near someone who cares. She’s happiest when she’s getting gentle pets and has a cozy spot to unwind.

Happy $10 Tuesday! All ready-to-go animals can be adopted today for just $10!

South Dakota is a 1 and a half year old angel baby! She's incredibly well-behaved and a big ole love bug! She walks beautifully on a leash- she'll look back at you to check in and when you stop walking, she'll come and sit right at your feet. She walks by your side pretty much the whole time and is insistent on always being close to you. She's an absolute velcro dog!! Her favorite things in the world are belly rubs and butt scratches; the girl seriously lives for affection. South Dakota can get nervous sometimes, and if you move too fast for her liking, she'll let you know by laying down. She loves to put her paws up on you for hugs and sneak a kiss in if she gets close enough! Because of her gentle nature, she would likely do very well with other animals and children. South Dakota could be such a sweet addition to your family!!!!

It's Volunteer Appreciation Week and we want to give a big THANK YOU to all of our amazing volunteers!

From walking dogs and socializing cats, to cleaning kennels and doing laundry, our volunteers are essential to CAA’s operations. Volunteers provide much needed enrichment, socialization, and companionship to our shelter pets and lend a helping hand to our staff.

Let's start the week off with a 🐾

Today's Happy Tail is from Katie and Omelette (adopted in April of 2024). Here's what Katie says about how Omelette has impacted her life:

"We brought Omelette home a year ago, not fully realizing how much joy, comfort, and ridiculous entertainment she’d bring into our lives. After losing my 14-year-old lab mix, Belle, my heart was still healing when we decided to visit CAA “just to look.” Naturally, 30 minutes later, we were signing adoption papers.

It took a little time for all of us to adjust and get to know each other, but Omelette has since shown us that with a little patience comes an overwhelming amount of love and loyalty. She’s been the perfect addition to our home and our hearts.

Omelette loves EVERYONE! She has never met a stranger and has the most bubbly personality. There is no way you won’t smile being in her presence. About 2 months ago we moved to northern West Virginia and so far she’s been loving it…specifically all the new wild life she can chase. "

Hoppy Easter from Bunny!

Bunny is a beautiful 1 year old chocolate retriever looking for a family as sweet as her! She has a very calm and collected personality for a puppy, and walks nice and politely on leash! She loves pets and treats, but she hasn't shown much interest in toys. She knows "sit" and would likely be easy to train because of how naturally smart she seems! Bunny is a good balance of playful and cuddly. Whether it’s a cozy nap by your feet or a relaxing walk around the block, she is happiest just being near her people. She’s been friendly with everyone she’s met so far - so come meet Bunny this week!

We are closed today for Easter and tomorrow as normal, but we will be open again 10am on Tuesday!

Strawberry is officially in season!

This sweet girl is 3 years old and the definition of attached at the hip! She insists on being right by your side at all times, which makes her wonderful to walk on a leash. Every time you stop in your tracks, she circles around and sits right at your feet; she's such a good girl! Strawberry has a very silly personality- she likes to roll around between your feet and beg for belly rubs! She's a bit nervous sometimes, and might take a few minutes to get comfortable with you. Because of her gentle nature though, she'd likely do very well with other pets and kids!
