last night we received this beautiful girl. she is missing most of her teeth and seems to have mouth rot, stuck shed, very dehydrated, and malnourished. we dont know much about her previous home besides her owner moved and left her in a tank with no lights that was nearly shattered. we currently are not sure when she will be available for adoption as she has a lot to heal from. we will continue to post updates as time goes on.

for those who just found us, this rescue was started by my cousin and i. we wanted to tell the story of why we started this rescue and thank everyone for supporting us in doing so.

on may 10th, we took in an axoltol with a messed up foot, bad weight, and unhealthy gills. we worked super hard to get her back to a healthy state and she is now much healthier.

on may 22nd, we took in an armadillo lizard (chopper) and a bearded dragon (faeryn). both were heavily neglected, faeryn came to us very sick, with stuck shed , impaction , and so many other issues. chopper was in good health despite the improper care. faeryn is permanently stuck at the size of a juvenile bearded dragon despite being 3 years old.

on june 3rd, we took in a leopard gecko who we brought to another rescue. we weren’t sure about doing a rescue at the time we took him in and wanted him to have the best shot possible at a healthy happy life.

after taking in so many rescues in such a short period of time, we soon decided to make a name for ourselves.

Do you take photos of dolphins from land when you are at the beach or pier? Would you like to utilize those photos and participate in a citizen science initiative?

Here at ECWR we have new and exciting opportunities for our dolphin enthusiasts! We are collaborating with partner organizations with photo-identification! Photo-identification (PID) is a non-invasive way to study animals in their habitats. This is done by taking photos of the dolphins and using their natural markings (e.g., nicks, cuts, scars, etc.) to help identify specific individuals.

What makes a good dorsal fin photo?
1. Having the dorsal fin in focus.
2. Having good resolution and zooming for better identification.
3. Capturing the surrounding habitat or anything significant to note.
4. Taking the photo when the dorsal fin is visible!

If you are interested in participating as a citizen scientist, please contact our Stranding Coordinator to receive more information!

It is important to never approach or feed a dolphin in the wild. This can potentially be dangerous and will encourage behavior that can harm the animal in future encounters. It is also illegal to harass or get near wild dolphins without a permit under the authority of the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Remember to responsibly view dolphins in the wild and only book excursions with Dolphin SMART partners.

not available for adoption

hello everyone, we would like to welcome our newest surrender! her name is fangs, she comes to us from a wonderful home and is very healthy! she is going to be 2 on 11/18/23. her owners made the hard decision to surrender her to us after she became very nervous and snappy.
they did decide that they would like for her to stay with us as an ambassador, she will not be available for adoption. we will continue to post updates as we work with her and as she lives her life out with us.
we will not be accepting/using donations for her since she will be a permanent resident

I don’t care if you’ve been keeping reptiles for 30 years or 30 minutes, never quit learning!!!! You don’t know everything. I DON’T KNOW EVERYTHING!! But I’ll never stop researching and making the changes where I need to for the best best care I can give. What about you??
