My sweet Comet is still 👀 for a 🏠! (I caught him playing in the litter box, so he's a little messy.)
His last sibling left him Sunday, so he's been a little sad. I've got Lulu playing Big Sister to him right now while he waits for his new family!

***SURPRISE!!! COMET IS AVAILABLE!!***

My hubby is currently on his way home from Houston (pray for him, he is about an hour out, but he has been in the Malvern/Little Rock blizzard for 2 hours) with our new stud! A friend told me about a boy that is literally everything I've been wanting and MORE, so for that reason, we don't need to keep our little Comet. 😭

Please PM me if you would like info on this sweet perfect baby!

It's been a few days, so I guess it's time. ☹️ with a sad heart, I must let you all know that we lost our little Cupid. He was SUCH a fighter from day 1, but I think the inevitable finally happened, as much as I don't want to admit it. I was finally able to get him to exactly 1 lb (16 exact ounces) but then he gradually started declining over the last week of his life. At the vet check last week he was down to 8 Oz 😔
He was never really able to transfer his calories into muscle mass and he didn't handle the transition from milk to food very well. I reverted back to milk again, but he just kept losing weight. I am so sad at the loss, but I am thankful that we had 7.5 weeks with him rather than losing him in the first few days like I was afraid of. He captured all of our hearts. He was the tiniest little dachshund runt I've ever seen, and I still consider his little life a success story because he still beat the odds ❤

Fun Facts Friday- the rainbow coats!

Ok so, I am going to try to explain these babies' colors to the best of my ability, and all of this is based on my knowledge of colors and genetics, not on actual DNA testing of the pups. The K locus (gene that controls dominant black and brindle) is tricky. But if any of these puppy parents DNA test, I would love to see the results to see if I'm right 🤣

Pic #1: chocolate
Both of these boys are chocolate, but the obvious difference is that Cupid has tan points and Comet does not. In the future Comet will be able to make solid chocolate and even solid black when bred to a black based girl!

Pic #2: tan points
These babies are both black and tan dapple piebald, however, Dasher (left) is a classic example, while Blitzen (right) seems to have Urijiro markings. This isn't common in dachshunds, so if you Google you'll see other breeds (lots if Japanese breeds have it commonly). Urijiro only affects red colors, not black, so in this case it's only visable in the tan points. You can see how his eyebrows and muzzle look to be outlined in tan and then not filled in bc the color is so light. His ticking on his feet is also barely visible.
Pic #3: Seal?
If you Google seal color, you'll see black dogs that have a brown/reddish tint all over. There are different variations of dominant black and seal, and this is where that k gene gets tricky. Prancer is black piebald. Dominant black with no bleed through. Donner (right) appears to have seal merle. All of his dappling has the reddish brown tint, but then his black base patches are BLACK.
Pic 4 #: Ghost points?
So these girls both have points. Prancer's points are obviously classic tan. On V***n, she basically looks the same color all over (black dapple), but if you notice on her eyebrows and mask (where points should be) there is a reddish tint. That's because that dang K gene is covering up her tan points with brindle markings. Notice the reddish tint is ONLY where her points should be, and not all over like the seal. Because of the brindle, it makes the points look really muddy/hidden and you can only see them in certain lighting, so they're sometimes referred to as ghost points. Most of the time you can't even see them unless you're in the sun light!

If you have a Paisley or Beans baby, your pup may have similar coloring to one of these babes! So I hope this helps you to understand your babies better!

***LOKI HAS BEEN CLAIMED***

But I'm going to use this opportunity to get on my small soapbox about dog registrations. 😀

AKC papers are pretty important in large dog breeds, especially in a breeding program. We bred German Shepherds, and the poor people that got on those pages with CKC or some other paperwork would get ripped to shreds. When I started my dachshund program I thought the same, so I got a male from Dallas that was double registered- 2 registrations. He was a big deal. That was Puffy.
At 6 months old I noticed that Puffy had bowed back legs and 1 testicle. He couldn't be bred. We were heart broken! But wait- he was double registered! He was really expensive! He came from a nice breeder lady! 🙄

When I started trying to find a replacement stud, I kept running across breeders who had AKC registered dachshunds, but they also bred AKC registered pugs, or frenchies, or Yorkies- and I noticed that their dachshunds didn't always look like full dachshund. But they were registered!

I found on pages where people would post the results of their DNA tests and say "my dog is AKC, but came back as 75% dachshund and 25% chihuahua." 😑

I also came across pages where people said "my dog's AKC papers say she's chocolate and tan" and it was CLEARLY NOT CHOCOLATE, but was red. But who is going to check that? No one! It's just...registered as the wrong color!

So I thought- what good is registration in small dog breeds?! If breeders can mark whatever color they want, they can have accidental breedings with their chihuahua and still use the papers from their dachshund, they can breed and sell dogs with health conditions (like Puffy and now Loki), but they try to charge more because they are "registered". That's insane to me.

So all of these reasons are why I decided to breed non registered dachshunds- to let my genetics and health speak for itself, to let my knowledge of those things speak for itself, and to be more affordable than those with "papers".

Thanks for coming to my soap box. Clearly I'm still fuming from the breeders that STILL won't read or respond to my VERY POLITE message, btw. But Loki is going to a perfect home to someone I am very pumped about 🥰
Happy NYE!

**Loki is claimed**
Hey friends! You all know (or if you havent been here long, you'll find out) that I try to live by WWJD. I try to be very transparent, and I pride myself on being forthcoming and honest about my pups. I am up front about any kind of birth defects and have never let a puppy or adult dog leave to a new home without being totally honest. I have given pups for free or reduced them significantly to reflect any kind of condition, even if it's one that will be 100% outgrown. I take pride in my breeding practices and I do not ever breed dogs with any known health conditions or hereditary conditions. I pride myself in treating eveyone the way I would want to be treated.

That said. I now know 1st hand that not everyone is that way 😔 Today we got a boy from Poplar Bluff, MO for our program. He's 6 months old, I was told he was AKC (but they never sent the papers), genetically (color, pattern and size wise) he was exactly what my program needed, and was told lots of amazing qualities about him! The reason they were rehoming was because they had too many males in their program and needed to downsize. He is SO FREAKING CUTE too, so that was the icing on the cake. My hubs picked him up today and as soon as he got home I discovered that he has crytorchidism- 1 testicle. He is most likely infertile. It's a genetic condition. It usually takes 4-6 months to know for sure, which would explain why they chose to remove him from their program and not disclose that to me since I wanted him for breeding. Since he got here they will not read my messages or respond 😭 We are so sad.
The kids were so excited, and he is literally a GREAT boy. If I was looking for a pet only, I would keep him in a heartbeat. However, because of my program, that's not what we can do.
So. If anyone is interested in Loki as a pet only, we are only asking what we gave. He is house broken, SO loving, good tempered, and is a mini. Feel free to message me. We dont want to get too attached, so we are pretending we are just dog sitting 😭

Tell me you're a dog breeder without telling me you're a dog breeder 🤣🤣🤣 these were some of my Christmas gifts this year, and this isn't including the ween hats and shirts. In case you're wondering about the little heater, it's a backup in case the heat goes out in the whelping house. 1 thing I've learned this year is that you ALWAYS HAVE TO BE PREPARED! My theme of 2024.

Also, we just finished bath time and the puppies are all mad at me, so there's you a bonus pic of them not speaking to me 🤣

Ok, it's time to personally introduce Comet! Idk yet if we are keeping his name, but this little guy is the newest addition to our farm!!!
Before these babies were born, I told my husband I was wishing for a boy that is solid dark chocolate without tan points that's also piebald and longhaired. So of course none of the babies are longhaired because Rooster can't give me that 😭, BUT he carries longhair thanks to his mama and he has EVERY other quality I wished for. So he is staying on the farm so that he can grow up and make delishiously beautiful chocolate piebald longhaired babies in the future! 😍😍😍
And look at that face!!! I'm also open to name suggestions, but just keep in mind that we are wierd and will prob pick something wierd, like Rooster or Lulu 🤣🙈

See if you can spot your baby! They all got their 1st parvo shots last night and their weekly wormer, so they were mad and wouldn't look at me 🤪
Check out how tiny Cupid still is! He is still less than 1lb, but he's he is playing and developing at the same speed as the others. Blitzen has almost caught up in size, so it's harder to pick him out of the crowd. All the babies are doing GREAT and Portia was happy to get a break from them for a bit 🤣 it's finally time to start having mommy breaks every evening.

I was going to wait until their 3 week birthday tomorrow to post these, but I just can't contain myself. 🤣🤣

Introducing Rudolph Portia and her 8 tiny reindeer pups 😍 Aren't they PRESH?! The 2 tiny boys have had SUCH GREAT weight gain this last week, so I figured it was time to post them.

I'll start contacting people from my waitlist this week too, so watch your inboxes!
