The Gary Sinise Foundation has established the Hero Companion Care Fund at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, which will help cover the cost of veterinary care for service dogs of active and veteran military families. ✨

“The College of Veterinary Medicine is proud to work with the Gary Sinise Foundation on meeting the needs of military families in financial need,” said Lorin D. Warnick, D.V.M., Ph.D. ’94, the Austin O. Hooey Dean of Veterinary Medicine. “This gift provides highly valued support and we recognize the foundation’s thoughtfulness and generosity to meet this important need in our region.”

Cornell will serve as the Northeast hub for the foundation. Beginning Nov. 3, the Hero Companion Care Fund will augment the costs of veterinary care through hospitals and programs run by Cornell. It will also help facilitate affordable veterinary clinics in the Northeast specifically for the military community.

A 2024 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that service dogs are an effective way of reducing military service-related PTSD among veterans.

Sadly Stokoe Farms said goodbye to K’Roo Saturday morning. We were privileged to try to help them in his journey and they wait to hear back about the possible causes.

We were lucky enough to meet him and his joey, Foster, on Thursday when they came in 🦘🥰

Not our typical patient, but this handsome guy came to see us yesterday. We hope everything works out for K'Roo and our friends at Stokoe Farms.

Please send good thoughts.
What appeared to be some lethargy from last weeks heat and high humidity has turned out to be a serious medical issue for our beloved 6 year old red kangaroo K’Roo. With the help of the wonderful Dr John from Attica Veterinary Associates he has been treated for his symptoms and with supportive care. Yesterday State Street Animal Hospital did a full assessment including bloodwork, chest and abdominal radiographs. Dr. Fran, Dr. Gwen and staff there are were so kind and helpful. These results have not yet shown a definitive diagnosis and have been sent to several macropod consultants. His condition is grave, but we are pursuing every option and treatment. Please keep him in your prayers. Prayers work and we love him so.

Edit:

K’Roo, our beautiful handsom boy, became critical this morning and we made a difficult decision. He went peacefully to sleep. We do not yet know the cause, but blood tests will come back next week for our top 2 suspects. You can understand our great sorrow but grateful for the 5 years of joy he provided for so many people. Suzanne and the amazing team of vets who helped us, did everything in their power to help him and make him comfortable. The farm certainly will not be the same without his powerful presence. For all the prayers that were sent up over the past 24-hours, we are truly thankful and blessed. He was a solace after a hard day, and a twinkle in our eye with his posing and antics.
