Hi! My name is Katie, and I'm a veterinary assistant here at Hillside.
I’ve been surrounded by animals my whole life, and ever since I could talk, I’ve told my family that I want to be a veterinarian someday. (Fun fact: my very first word was “kitty”!)

I absolutely love working here at Hillside and hope to stay as long as possible. I’m a proud cat mom to five cats (and counting!) who bring so much joy to my life. Pictured with me is my 10-year-old best friend, MowMow. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without the unconditional love she gives me. MowMow has helped me through the toughest days and makes sure the good days keep coming.

🌊🐶 Beach Day with Your Pup? Here’s What to Pack & Know! 🐾☀️

Nothing beats a day in the sun and sand with your four-legged best friend, but make sure you’re both beach-ready!

🏖️ Beach Bag Checklist for Your Dog:

✅ Fresh water & a collapsible bowl
✅ Pet-safe sunscreen (especially for pink noses & bellies!)
✅ A shady spot—umbrella, tent, or towel
✅ A leash and harness (some beaches require them!)
✅ Waste bags—clean up is still a must!
✅ Floating toys for safe, splashy fun
✅ A towel for drying off + wiping sandy paws
✅ ID tags & microchip info up to date (just in case!)

⚠️ Safety Tips:
🌡️ Watch for signs of overheating, panting, drooling, or weakness.
🌊 Rinse off saltwater after swimming to protect skin & fur.
🍽️ Don’t let your pup drink ocean water, it can cause serious stomach upset.

☀️🐾 Too Hot to Trot? Check the Pavement! 🐾☀️

If it’s too hot for your bare feet, it’s too hot for your pup’s paws!
On sunny days, pavement can heat up fast—reaching over 125°F—which can cause serious burns in seconds.

🔥 Quick tip: Press the back of your hand to the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.

✅ Walk your dog early in the morning or later in the evening
✅ Stick to grassy or shaded paths
✅ Consider dog booties for extra protection
✅ Keep walks short and always bring water
