Now is the perfect time to prepare. Make sure your pet has a safe, quiet place to retreat, keep identification tags up to date, and consider calming aids if your pet struggles with anxiety during loud noises.

A reminder to skip the afternoon dog walks on hot, sunny days like Tuesday. The surface temperature of asphalt and pavement gets hot enough to burn your dogs paws.

A simple test is to touch the pavement before heading out. If it feels too hot to keep your hand on it, skip the walk!

🚨New World Screwworm (NWS), scientific name Cochliomyia hominivorax, was confirmed by the USDA in a 3-week-old beef calf in Texas on June 3, 2026.

NWS is a flesh-eating maggot in its larval stage. It is unique because it consumes live flesh, unlike other maggots that eat dead tissue. NWS can infect animals, birds and even humans. It is often found in open wounds, the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and the umbilicus in neonates.

Any veterinarian suspicious of NWS should contact their State Animal Health Official, who will facilitate sample collection and submission to the National Veterinary Services Laboratory (NSVL) in Ames, Iowa.

Help us find this cat's family 💔

Today, a member of our team found a deceased white- medium hair cat on the roadside near Desantis Meat Market in Barneveld. Unfortunately no microchip was detected, and it is unclear if this cat was a beloved family pet or a stray.

We have brought the cat to our clinic and will be respectfully holding them in hopes of identifying their family.

Still true and getting worse year after year, depending on the mouse population. Lots of mice, lots of deer moving around, and ticks equal Lyme and tick-borne disease central!!!! Most people who develop Lyme disease never knew they even had a tick on them.

Now think about our fur babies - it's very hard to find a tiny tick in all that hair! They can transmit Lyme disease in less than 24 hours, we're finding.

Please vaccinate for Lyme disease and use a tick prevention recommended by your veterinarian year-round!!!!

If there are still deer in the winter, that means ticks are still around and looking for a warm, furry body to jump on and feed/mate!
