COURTESY POST: Sweet Bugsy is at the animal control pound in Gloucester, VA and would love to meet you. Here is what the shelter folks have to say about him.
He is a sweetheart, a charming and near perfect little friend. He is always looking for someone to visit with and does so in a calm and gentle manner. He sniffs at the litter of puppies and visits politely with some of the small fluffy dogs as well as anyone else who we have in the pound, any size shape or color. He isn't breed specific in his friends. The consensus is they wouldn't expect him to be a problem with cats. He hasn't paid much attention to the chickens that are there but they don't have any cats to test him with, so this would be an educated guess. He came in neutered, and will be updated on his shots before he leaves. He will be checked for heartworms as soon as possible. If he is positive, he will be started on doxy and then treated. If a home comes along then he can be placed in a foster to adopt home till the treatment is completed. The Friends of Gloucester County animal control will pay for the treatments.
He doesn't appear to have any special needs other than a responsible loving home. It is the belief of the walkers that he would do well as an only dog, but also would do well with doggie siblings. They believe that at one time he had a home, as he loves walking on a leash and is social with all the people he meets. He appears to be house trained and keeps his run clean and stays politely there, waiting to be leashed up. He enjoys his special treats, and eats heartily. He came in quite thin. His eyes have been cleaned and treated and he is gaining weight but could still gain a few more pounds. Although they are saying he is a senior of about eight, there is some question of course. He has plenty of spring in his step and exhibits a joy for life and a calm friendly nature.
