🐾 Memorial Day Pet Safety Tips 🐾

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend, don’t
forget to keep our furry family members safe too!

Here are a few quick pet safety reminders from your veterinary team:

🌭 Skip the BBQ scraps
Foods like onions, grapes, corn cobs, fatty meats, and bones can be
dangerous for pets.

☀️ Watch the heat
Make sure pets have access to shade and fresh water, especially during
outdoor gatherings.

🎆 Be mindful of loud noises
Crowds, fireworks, and celebrations can cause stress and anxiety for
many pets. Create a quiet, secure space indoors if needed.

🦟 Don’t forget parasite prevention
Mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks become more active this time of year.
Keep preventatives up to date to protect your pets.

🚪 Secure gates and doors
With guests coming and going, pets can easily slip outside unnoticed.

❤️ This Memorial Day, we honor and remember those who served while
also keeping our beloved companions safe and comfortable through the
holiday weekend.

We hope you and your pets have a safe, happy holiday! 🇺🇸🐶🐱

🐾 Happy Rescue Dog Day! 🐾

Today, we celebrate the amazing rescue dogs who fill our lives with love, resilience, and joy. ❤️ Every rescue pet deserves a safe, loving home and the chance to thrive.

If you’re thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, consider adoption. Many wonderful dogs — from playful puppies to sweet seniors — are still waiting for their forever homes.

Remember, adjustment takes time. The “3-3-3 Rule” can help set expectations:
🐾 3 days to decompress
🐾 3 weeks to settle into routines and build trust
🐾 3 months to feel truly at home

Patience, consistency, and compassion make all the difference. ❤️

Even if adoption isn’t possible right now, you can still help by fostering, volunteering, donating, or supporting local shelters and rescues.

📸 Share a photo of your rescue dog and tell us their story in the comments!

To all the rescue dogs out there: thank you for the paw prints you leave on our hearts. 💕

We are happy to introduce a new doctor to our staff to help support the growing demand for veterinary services in our community.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Andres to Banks Veterinary Service. He will be starting June 1st.

Dr. Andres is a recent graduate (December 2025) of the Murdoch University School of Veterinary Medicine. Born and raised in California in a Spanish-speaking household, he earned his bachelor’s degree in International Relations from University of California, Davis before serving in the Peace Corps in Rwanda.

Following his Peace Corps service, Dr. Andres pursued a Master’s degree in International Environmental Policy and Conservation, where he gained experience working with marine mammal rescue organizations in both the Galápagos Islands and Monterey Bay.

Dr. Andres has a passion for mixed animal medicine and is excited to be part of the Banks community, where he looks forward to building lasting relationships with clients and their animals.

In his free time, Dr. Andres enjoys surfing, backpacking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Welcome to Banks Veterinary Service Dr. Andres Schrier!

We were honored to assist alongside local fire crews during Saturday night’s incredible baby goat rescue off Farmington Road. Thanks to the teamwork and dedication of Dr. Christina and everyone involved, this little one was safely reunited with its mother just in time for Mother’s Day. 🐐❤️

AI lied to me

In today's email I share a recent situation where AI actually gave me a false citation to a research paper. It's our job to help our clients sort through the noise of the internet and shiny product flyers to get quality animal health information. Head on over to your email now!

🌍🕊️ Happy World Migratory Bird Day 2026!

This year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter!”,
reminds us that each sighting, note, and shared moment can make a real
difference for migratory birds.

Twice a year, millions of birds travel incredible distances—connecting
continents and ecosystems. By participating in community science
(citizen science), everyday people help track these journeys, monitor
populations, and support conservation efforts that protect vital
habitats. 📊🐦

Whether you’re logging sightings, snapping photos, or simply paying
attention to the birds around you—you’re contributing to something
bigger.

You can help make a difference:
🌿 Plant native plants to provide food and shelter
💡 Turn off unnecessary lights at night during migration seasons
🐾 Keep cats indoors to protect local wildlife
📱 Share your bird sightings through community science projects
🦉 Check out and support your local bird-watching organizations

Let’s work together to protect their pathways by preserving habitats,
reducing light pollution, and sharing what we see.

Look up, get involved, and remember: every bird counts. 💙
