ForceFreePets is an information resource on dogs and cats for those that live and work with them. Don is a member of the Pet Professional Guild (PPG).

ForceFreePets.com is an educational resource for people with dogs and cats. We are committed to a philosophy that puts the welfare of an animal and our ethics towards the animal and client first. We believe the use of tools and methods designed to inflict pain, force, and fear is unethical and unnecessary in the care and training of a pet. We provide online education programs through our website (www.ForceFreePets.com) and articles, videos, and podcasts through our blog Words, Woofs, & Meows (www.words-woofs-meows.com) and our radio show and podcast The Woof Meow Show (https://woofmeowshow.libsyn.com/ ). Our founder is Don Hanson, the co-owner of the Green Acres Kennel Shop in Bangor, ME ( www.greenacreskennel.com). He is a Bach Foundation Registered Animal Practitioner (BFRAP), Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC), Associate Certified Cat Behavior Consultant (ACCBC), and Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) with 26+ years of experience as a pet care professional.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD-In his latest ForceFreePets.com blog post, Don Hanson, PCBC-A, begins the first in a series of articles in which he reflects on how the pet care industry has changed for the better over the past 30 years. He discusses how canine behavior experts have universally condemned the use of dominance and aversive methods, such as shock, prong, and choke collars. At the same time, he warns people with pets that some unfortunately use these methods and tools with their dogs, despite them being considered inhumane and abusive.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD – This video from All Dog, Are Shock Collars Hurting Your Dog? should be required viewing for everyone who cares about dogs, including every pet care professional. I will warn you that it does contain graphic videos of dogs being shocked and photos of dogs that display the injuries they have received from shock collars. You probably won’t want your children to see this video because if you're using a shock collar on the family dog, your children will rightfully lose their respect for you and may justifiably start fearing for their safety.
