Today at All the Fixins we were able to help a little 7 week old kitten who has had a rough start in life. Meet Luna. One of our rescue groups that we work closely with, Strays 4 Days, contacted our sister company, CatSnip, asking for help, about a poor baby whose eyes were swollen and possibly needing one removed. Now let me just give you a heads up, our owner, Renee Cardona, first and foremost, has the biggest heart and will always try to find a way to help every single kitten or pup in need. But this baby, she pulled on our heartstrings. One of our employees offered to medically foster her until she was able to make weight for surgery safely, which meant she brought her into her home and cared for her as if she were one of her own and gave her round the clock care. Luna could not see out of both of her eyes, but boy could she use all of her other senses. We found out that she loves music, and she loves to make biscuits, and loves to talk and cuddle.
Today she had her bilateral enucleation (aka the removal of both of her eyes). The doctor determined that the cause of the swelling was due to a virus that had been present for an undetermined amount of time and there was no way it could have been prevented or avoided that we know of.
We at All the Fixins and CatSnip are committed to the same goal of the health and wellbeing of all cats and dogs and while we may not see cases like Luna’s often, it takes teams like ours who are dedicated, heartfelt, and passionate to make sure that we can continue forward with our work.
Luna is now back at home and is on the road to recovery! Her “foster mom” cried on the way home after dropping her off, but was assured that she will be able to see her on many occasions when the rescue group brings more community cats for alters and for her own veterinary care.
