Robbie Potter Horsemanship

Robbie Potter Horsemanship Horseman from North Carolina offering clinics throughout the U.S.A. Available for private sessions. Why Am I Here? I’m not here to fix your horse.
(1)

I’m not here to help you fix your horse. I’m not here to help you get a job done with your horse. I am here to help you change yourself and learn to become more effective at discerning what you should be asking of your horse. Only then can you begin to build a relationship that encourages him to start to trust your judgment. When this is in place the need for fixing doesn’t exist. You will then st

art to realize:
Things like desensitizing and redirecting don’t work. That running a horse in too many mindless circles is in fact a control strategy used which eliminates allowing the horse to have a choice. That disengaging the hindquarters is a skill necessary to potentially save your life but one that teaches the horse nothing and when done too often takes away his dignity. That bending and flexing 99% of the time takes away from straightness and balance. That straightness and balance give back to the horse instead of taking away. That straightness and balance mean the world to him. That there is only black or white not right or wrong. That gray creates confusion for the horse. That the horse has no ego and neither should you when working with him. That everything is connected and the same. That you must trust your horse AND yourself . That you must have faith that the horse will give you back 100 times more than you ever imagined when you earn the right for him to trust your judgment.

👥 Meet the RPH Team: Sandy Means

Horses have always been the focus of Sandy’s life. She grew up catching rides whenever she could, took English riding lessons as a child, and rode with a dressage instructor in college. While in college, she purchased her first horse—a lovely Thoroughbred mare. Since then, Sandy has owned nine horses, including two she has raised from birth.

Sandy first met Robbie at a clinic in Winston-Salem, NC, in 2017 while searching for help with a few challenges she was facing. She was amazed by Robbie’s ability to help a horse find him and find peace. After attending RPH clinics whenever she could, Sandy joined the RPH team in 2021.

Today, Sandy serves as an RPH event liaison, helping Robbie, clinic hosts, and participants prepare for successful events. She does a wonderful job supporting our host in Alabama and serves as the primary contact for many of our longer events, including C**t Starting, ABC’s of Riding, and Know the Feet.

Sandy’s favorite part of her role is helping people feel at ease so they can focus on learning and enjoying their experience. We are very thankful to have her as part of the RPH team!

Sometimes, doing more isn’t the answer. True progress comes when we replace busyness with clarity, timing, and feel.

➕“Doing nothing has the same outcome as doing too much. Too many rules and mindless exercises can get in the way of our effectiveness with our horses.” — Robbie Potter

👥 Meet the RPH Team – Lee Hardin

Behind every successful clinic is a team of people working to make sure everything comes together, and Lee is an essential part of that team.

Lee's love for horses began at just four years old, and she's been helping organize Robbie's clinics since 2004. In 2019, she officially joined the Robbie Potter Horsemanship team and now serves as RPH's Finance Director, managing the finances and bookkeeping that help keep everything running behind the scenes. She also assists with clinic organization and educational initiatives, helping create a positive experience for riders, hosts, and auditors alike.

When she's not working behind the scenes, Lee enjoys spending time with her five Norwegian Fjord horses and riding the beautiful trails around her home in Spruce Pine, North Carolina.

Lee's dedication, organization, and heart for serving others are a huge part of what makes Robbie Potter Horsemanship possible, and we're incredibly thankful for everything she does.

Thank you, Lee, for your years of dedication and for being such an important part of the RPH family!

That's exactly what our Leatherwood Mountain Obstacle Clinic next month is all about.

This isn't a clinic about simply getting across a bridge or through a gate. It's about learning how to communicate with your horse in a way that builds confidence and understanding. The obstacles simply give us the opportunity to discover where communication can become clearer.

Whether you're working through hesitation, improving your timing, or simply wanting to strengthen the relationship you have with your horse, you'll leave with practical tools you can take home and apply to every ride.

📍 Leatherwood Mountain Resort - 512 Meadow Road, Ferguson, NC 28624
📅 August 22 & 23, 2026

We already have a great group of riders signed up, and we have room to welcome just TWO more!

If you've been thinking about joining us, we'd love to have you. Come spend the weekend learning, growing, and building a better relationship with your horse alongside an encouraging group of fellow riders.

👉 Reserve your spot today! We can't wait to see you at Leatherwood!

If you've ever seen the kids' movie, Dumbo, you probably remember the feather. It wasn't what made Dumbo fly; it simply gave him the confidence to discover he could all along.

The same idea applies to our horses.

Our job isn't to force them into position. It's to become the "feather" by offering the clarity, straightness, and balance that helps the horse find the right answer.

In this teaching moment, Robbie demonstrates how changing the horse's body position, getting the ribs off the rider's leg, and engaging the correct hind foot can completely change the conversation.

If you've ever scheduled a private session with Robbie, chances are you've already met Karla!

Karla has loved horses for as long as she can remember and has had a horse of her own since she was just three years old. She began taking hunt seat lessons at twelve, and horses have been a huge part of her life ever since.

In 2021, the pandemic gave her the opportunity to begin taking monthly private sessions with Robbie. Before long, she made the switch to western riding and, with a little encouragement from friends, attended her first Robbie Potter Horsemanship Intro to Cow Working Clinic. It didn't take long for those clinics to become her favorite!

Since 2022, Karla has been coordinating Robbie's private sessions, helping riders find opportunities to continue learning and growing outside of clinics. She's the friendly face behind the scheduling process and is always happy to help riders get on the calendar.

Thank you, Karla, for everything you do behind the scenes to help keep private sessions and small group sessions running smoothly. We appreciate all you do for RPH!
