🐾 More Behind-the-Scenes with Cinnamon!

We’re giving you another look at Cinnamon’s recent CT scan here at CALM Zoo.

Our animal care team scheduled the scan after noticing some behavioral changes and wanted to explore every possible cause, including any underlying medical reasons. The results are in, and we’re happy to share that everything looked great! 🙌

A huge thank you to Mobile Animal CT for helping us with this important diagnostic step, to Dr. Pokard and her awesome team at Fauna Vet Collective, and to our amazing CALM veterinary team and staff who worked together to make the day run so smoothly.

Behind the Scenes with Cinnamon the Black Bear!

Recently, our beloved bear Cinnamon underwent a CT scan right here at CALM Zoo! A perfect example of how we go above and beyond to care for the animals that call our zoo home.

Thanks to the incredible team from Mobil Animal CT, we were able to perform this advanced diagnostic procedure right on-site. Preparing for a scan like this takes a lot of coordination. From safely transporting a 470-pound bear, to ensuring he could fit comfortably into the CT machine, it truly was a team effort and we’re so proud of how smoothly everything went.

While Cinnamon was under anesthesia for his CT scan to perform an overall health assessment, our veterinary team took the chance to do a thorough health check. This included a full physical exam, trimming his nails, and gently brushing his coat to look closely for any skin issues. These steps are all part of how we carefully care for him and keep him healthy.

A special thank you goes out to our generous donor whose contribution of a mechanical lift made this procedure possible. It was pivotal in safely moving Cinnamon into place for the scan.

This incredible team effort highlights the lengths to which CALM Zoo goes to provide top notch medical care for our animal ambassadors. With cutting-edge technology, compassionate professionals, and community support, we continue to offer the best possible treatment for our residents. Cinnamon’s CT scan is a testament to the power of collaboration in wildlife care, and we look forward to sharing more stories of dedication and success from CALM Zoo in the future.

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes updates on our animal care and conservation efforts!

Update on Patient #25-35, The Resilient San Joaquin Kit Fox

We’re excited to share the latest on our brave patient, #25-35! After two months of dedicated care at CALM Zoo’s veterinary hospital, this incredible San Joaquin kit fox is now thriving in our outdoor habitat as he prepares for release back into the wild in the coming weeks.

Thanks to the tireless work of our veterinary team, this endangered fox has made remarkable progress. He’s no longer on any medication and is simply waiting for his full winter coat to grow in, a crucial step before he returns to his natural home.

For over a decade, CALM Zoo has partnered with ESRP to fight sarcoptic mange, a disease threatening the San Joaquin kit fox population. Treatment can be intensive, often requiring antibiotics, fluid therapy, and support for secondary infections. Thanks to early intervention and expert care, #25-35 is healing faster than expected.

Once his winter coat is fully in, ESRP will release him back to his original territory or den site — a true testament to the power of conservation and community effort.

Thank you for following along with us on this journey. Stay tuned for more updates on this remarkable fox and our ongoing mission to protect the San Joaquin kit fox!
