Scruggs is back on habitat!

Our American badger recently made a visit to our on-site Wonderful Care Clinic veterinary hospital for a minor procedure on his foot. We're happy to report that everything went well, he's all healed up, and he's back home on habitat doing what Scruggs does best: being a sleepy guy!

While Scruggs behind the scenes, our Animal Care and Maintenance teams took the opportunity to complete some updates to one section of his habitat, including repainting, deep cleaning and thorough habitat safety checks. The other half of his habitat is still under construction as we work toward a full habitat refresh, which will include a new pond!

We're excited for Scruggs to enjoy his updated space as work continues, and we're so grateful to our hardworking teams for all they do to keep our residents healthy, happy and thriving. Welcome back, Scruggs!

As a longtime supporter and local business owner, Jeff has seen firsthand how meaningful the Zoo can be for generations of families. Now, he’s looking forward to the future and what CALM Zoo's Master Plan will bring to Kern County: modern habitats, stronger connections to wildlife, and new opportunities for our community to learn and grow.
