Warmer weather is approaching Kern County, and you know what that means! It is mosquito season! 🦟🦟🦟

Here at BLAH we have seen a major increase in the amount of mosquitoes recently and we wanted to remind everyone to vaccinate their horses for West Nile Virus. Our office saw two out of the three positive West Nile Virus cases in the county last year. Don’t let your horse 🐴be one of them this year!

As we approach the month of April, we encourage everyone to call our office and make a vaccination appointment. In the spring we vaccinate for West Nile Virus, Eastern & Western Equine Encephalomyelitis, Tetanus, Influenza, and Rhinopneumonitis.

Foaling season is upon us! 🐴🐴🐴

Here at Bakersfield Large Animal we see lots of young foals in need of a little boost to start life healthy and strong!

This foal in the images below did not receive enough colostrum within the first 8 hours of birth. To prevent sepsis or other severe illness, we supplement an IV plasma bag along with additional antibiotics to boost its immune system. Foals can become critically ill without enough colostrum, so proper administration of plasma can prevent such infections.
