My primary goal in starting this business has always been to identify the gaps in the dog industry and understand why owners often face challenges with training. Over the past year, I’ve gained invaluable insights into what our communities need to help dogs and their owners live happier, healthier lives together.

I’m now excited to take the next step in creating a brick-and-mortar facility, leveraging my eight years of experience in this field. I plan to dedicate the coming year to spending quality time with my son while carefully planning for a pet-centric business that prioritizes the well-being of dogs and their owners.

Let’s talk dogs + kids. Owning a dog or multiple dogs while having children can be a challenge. We want to give our kids full attention while also ensuring our dogs are safe and happy. Here are some tips:

🐾 Don’t assume your dog(s) will LOVE your kids - Children are sporadic and unpredictable and dogs do not typically enjoy that.

🐾 Don’t make management extremely difficult because you will not maintain it. Find ways that will easily allow for quick and effective management of dogs and kids.

🐾 Crate the baby 🤣 okay sounds funny, but really the best management I have used was a play pen from the time Levi came home. At first as the dogs adjusted Levi spent his tummy times and play times in his play pen. This way the dogs could see him and have freedom to move around him without being up in his space.

🐾 Baby gates: use them! Gate off play areas, baby’s room etc.

🐾 Get very familiar with dog body language and listen to your dogs!

🐾 Teach kids how to do consent checks with dogs. We do not grab toys from dogs or pet dogs until the dog has invited us to the interaction.

🐾 Crates are a great place to feed your dogs and give high value items so kids cannot mess with their stuff.

Nature 🌳

🐾 dogs are predisposed to many behaviors that may include nipping at ankles (herding), barking, resource guarding, anxiety, prey drive and so much more.

🐾 These behaviors may never be able to be trained out and may rely on responsible ownership and management for the life of the dog.

Nurture 💖: Is it all in how you raise them?

🐾 As stated above nature does play a role in how dogs adapt to different situations.

🐾 nurture does not just mean loving your dog - it means taking the time to socialize, provide appropriate enrichment, train and manage your pup.

🐾 socializing = a lot of frequent positive exposures to an assortment of different things.

🐾 simply being raised around something (ex. children or other dogs) does not mean a dog will always love them. Nature plays a role + POSITIVE exposure (aka respectful interactions) make all the difference.
