Five years ago, Sage received the incredible gift of a new heart and a second chance at life & his mom post reminded me that. ❤️
His story will always hold such a special place in the heart of Double L Retrievers.
One of our very first puppy families was Dr. Fricker, who brought home a Jenny and Bo baby named Violet. Years later, he called and asked whether we had a puppy available because he wanted to purchase one for his patient, Sage.
We immediately told him, “Dr. Fricker, you are not purchasing that puppy. We would be honored to give Sage a Double L Retrievers baby.” Even though Doc. Tried to argue.
That baby was a Violet and Bo girl named Ruby. 🐾
After Ruby joined Sage’s family, members of his medical team called and told us that Ruby was better than any medicine Sage could have received. I broke down crying. In that moment, we knew without a doubt that God had placed our family exactly where we needed to be—raising Golden Retrievers and allowing them to bring love, comfort and healing into the lives of others.
When we began this breeding journey, we promised God that we would always give back. That promise remains at the heart of Double L Retrievers. This has never been only about raising puppies—it is about the families they become part of, the lives they touch and the beautiful purposes God has for them.
Two days ago, we celebrate Sage’s fifth heart transplant anniversary.
Happy fifth heart anniversary, Sage! We are so grateful that Ruby and a little piece of Double L Retrievers became part of your beautiful story.
God placed us right where we needed to be, and He gets all the glory. ❤️🙏🐾
