❤️ May is Heartworm Awareness Month — but here's the truth: heartworm prevention is a 12- month commitment.

In Arizona, mosquitoes are active year-round. Irrigation canals, swimming pools, monsoon- season standing water, even leaky faucets — there's always a breeding ground somewhere.

That means heartworm risk doesn't take a break. Not in summer. Not in winter. Not ever.

The formula is simple:
🩸One annual test💊Monthly prevention — every month, all year💜

Total protection That's it. A few dollars a month to prevent a disease that costs $1,000-$3,000+ to treat in dogs — and has NO treatment in cats.

💜 This is what it looks like when your vet team actually takes their time.

At ArkVets, we don't rush. We don't cut corners. And sometimes? We get right on the floor with your pet — because that's where they're most comfortable.

Every exam. Every listen. Every gentle hand. It all matters.

Our team is trained to make your pet feel safe, not stressed. To slow down when they need it. To treat every visit like it's the most important one of the day — because to your pet, it is.

🐾 This is the standard. Not the exception.

🏠 "My pet never goes outside. Do they really need vaccines?"

Yes. Here's why — and it's not just our opinion. It's the law, the science, and common sense.

In Arizona, rabies vaccination is mandatory for all dogs and cats — indoor or outdoor. Rabies is fatal and transmissible to humans. There are no exemptions based on lifestyle.

Threats come inside.

Mosquitoes enter through open doors and windows — and one bite can transmit heartworm. Parvovirus can survive on shoes and clothing for months. Other pets in the household can bring exposure home. Your "sealed" indoor environment isn't as airtight as it seems.

1. Escapes happen. A door left open during a delivery. A window screen that pops out. A curious cat who bolts during a move. Indoor pets escape more often than owners realize — and one encounter with an unvaccinated animal or contaminated surface is enough.

2. You'll need them eventually. Emergency care, surgery, hospitalization, boarding — all require current vaccination records. Getting caught up in a crisis adds stress, cost, and delay for everyone.

3. Core vaccines for indoor pets:
🐕Dogs: Rabies + DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Parainfluenza)
🐱Cats: Rabies + FVRCP (Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia)

💜 Not sure if your pet is current? We can check and create a personalized schedule — nojudgment, no stress.

Happy Memorial Day, Phoenix!

Before the grill fires up and the fireworks start, here's your complete holiday pet safety guide.

Save this. Share it. It could prevent an emergency visit.

🌭BBQ FOOD DANGERS: These common cookout foods can send your pet to the ER:
🦴 Cooked bones — splinter and can perforate the intestines
🌽Corn cobs — one of the most common holiday GI foreign body emergencies
🧅Onions & garlic — toxic, destroy red blood cells
🍇Grapes & raisins — can cause acute kidney failure
🍺Alcohol — even small amounts cause toxicity in pets
🍬Xylitol (sugar-free gum, candy, some peanut butters) — can be fatal

✅What IS safe to share (small amounts): Plain grilled chicken (no seasoning), seedless
watermelon, carrots, green beans, plain sweet potato, ice cubes.

💥FIREWORKS & NOISE ANXIETY: Holiday weekends with fireworks are the #1 time pets go missing.

🐾Keep pets inside BEFORE fireworks begin🐾Close windows and curtains
🐾Turn on white noise or calming music
🐾Set up a safe space — crate, closet, or quiet room
🐾Makesure microchip info and ID tags are current
🐾Talk to your vet about anxiety medication if your pet has a history of noise phobia

️💧Fresh water always available
🐾 Walk before 8 AM or after 6 PM
🏊Supervise all pool time

🚨 Emergencies don't wait. Neither do we.

When something's wrong with your pet — really wrong — you need a team that's ready. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Right now.

At ArkVets, our Urgent Care division is designed for exactly that. Fast triage. Compassionate care. Expert medicine. Same-day availability across all three of our Phoenix-area locations.

🔸 Difficulty breathing
🔸 Rattlesnake or scorpion encounters
🔸 Severe vomiting or diarrhea
🔸 Collapse or unresponsiveness
🔸 Anything that feels like "something's really wrong"

Trust your instincts. If it feels urgent, it probably is. And we'd rather see your pet for a false alarm than miss something critical.

🏊Arizona pool season is here — and your dog is probably already eyeing the water. Before they jump in, here's what every pool-owning pet parent needs to know:

🚫NOTALL DOGS CAN SWIM Bulldogs, Pugs, Dachshunds, Corgis, Basset Hounds, and other short-legged or flat-faced breeds struggle in water and tire quickly. Never assume your dog is a natural swimmer. Introduce slowly and always supervise.

🪜TEACH POOL EXIT FIRST This is the most important thing you can do. Even strong
swimmers can drown if they panic and can't find the stairs. Practice the exit route. Repeatedly. Consider a pet pool ramp.

💧WATER INTOXICATION IS REAL Dogs who bite at hoses, sprinklers, or play prolonged fetch in water can swallow enough to cause hyponatremia — dangerously low sodium levels. Signs: lethargy, vomiting, bloating, loss of coordination, seizures. This is a medical emergency.

🧪CHLORINE & CHEMICALS Rinse your dog with fresh water after every swim. Don't let them drink pool water. Watch for irritated eyes or skin.

🦟STANDING WATER = MOSQUITOES Puddles around the pool area breed mosquitoes — which means heartworm risk. Keep areas drained and your pet on monthly prevention.

POOL SAFETY CHECKLIST:

✅Teach exit before free swim

✅Supervise at ALL times

✅Install pool fence or alarm

✅Limit water fetch sessions

✅Rinse after every swim

✅Fresh drinking water poolside

✅Eliminate standing water

✅Heartworm prevention current
