Beat the heat! Summer safety tips. ๐พ๐
๐Avoid Hot Cars: Never leave pets in an unattended car, even with cracked windows. Temperatures can reach deadly levels within minutes.
๐Adjust Walk Times: Walk your dog during cooler, off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) to avoid the intense midday sun.
๐The "Seven-Second" Rule: Asphalt and concrete retain massive amounts of heat. Test surfaces with the back of your hand for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your dog's paws.
๐Fresh Water Access: Ensure constant access to clean, fresh water. Keep bowls in the shade and refill them frequently, as pets may refuse to drink water that has become hot.
๐Provide Shade: If pets are outside, always ensure there are well-ventilated, shaded areas for them to retreat to.
๐Supervise Swimming: Never assume your pet is a natural swimmer. Always supervise them around pools and lakes, and consider outfitting them with a pet life jacket.
๐Prevent Pests: Summer is peak season for fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. Consult your veterinarian to ensure your pet is on up-to-date, year-round preventive medications.
