🔹 Intake:
6/18/2026: Found as a stray with significant injuries to the right front leg and left elbow area. Medical staff noted wounds consistent with trauma, including concern for a possible bite or bullet wound.

📝 Shelter Notes:

6/19/2026: Approached kennel with a neutral body and easily followed handler into a run. Outside he was vocal and barked. Returning to the kennel was difficult as he became tense, resisted entering, and pulled back on leash. Was ultimately placed back into the kennel safely.

6/22/2026: Approached kennel with a neutral body and easily leashed. Walked calmly on leash and allowed pets while outside. Became avoidant when returning to the kennel and pulled in the opposite direction but was able to be guided back. Has been quiet for most of the morning.

🚑 Medical Notes:
6/18/2026: Weighed 82.0 lbs. Limping on the right front leg with pain noted near the left elbow. Diagnosed with traumatic wounds of unknown origin. Started on Carprofen for pain management. Vaccinated (Bordetella, Rabies, DA2PP-V), dewormed, given flea prevention, and tested Heartworm Low Positive.

6/21/2026: Weighed 83.4 lbs. Wound clipped and cleaned. Radiographs showed no fracture and a healing wound to the left shoulder with soft tissue injury.

📝 Shelter Notes:

6/18/2026: Approached with a tense body, ears back, and raised hackles. Flinched during leash placement and looked back with whale eyes while being walked. Pulled back on the leash and kept her tail tucked.

6/20/2026: Quiet in kennel with a tense body, pinned ears, and tucked tail. Initially pancaked on her bed but gradually approached after gentle baby talk and treats. Relaxed enough to accept petting and spent several minutes enjoying affection.

6/21/2026: Found lying flat on her bed with dilated eyes and a tense body. Allowed leashing but refused to walk and trembled despite gentle encouragement. Staff elected not to force movement and allowed her to remain comfortably in her kennel.

6/22/2026: Lying on her bed with a tense body, ears back, and tucked tail. Slowly accepted a leash and walked out of her kennel on a loose leash. Waited calmly in front of the kennel door and walked back without her tail tucked. After spending time in the office, she relaxed significantly, wagged her tail, explored her surroundings, and sought comfort from staff.

🚑 Medical Notes:

6/17/2026: Weighed 65.0 lbs. Exam noted generalized hair thinning and dermatitis. Flea allergy suspected. Vaccinated (Rabies, DA2PP-V, Bordetella), dewormed, and tested Heartworm Negative.

URGENT: Fred the Basset Needs a Foster Home ASAP

Fred the Basset Hound is in a shelter in rural Virginia, which means that he’s in danger of losing his life. Homeward Trails is trying to find a foster home for him, at which point he will be in their system and out of danger.

If you have interest in fostering him, please get in contact with Homeward Trails by today or tomorrow at the latest.

5/23/2026: Approached staff with a soft face, tail tapping, and a trembling body. Walked on a loose leash with a wagging tail and no issues moving to and from the runs.

5/24/2026: Participated in a move-adopt program and did well in her new kennel. Calmly watched dogs pass by and remained relaxed.

5/26/2026: Friendly and social with a loose body, open-mouth smile, and wagging tail. Kept her kennel clean and paid little attention to other dogs.

5/30/2026: Sat calmly at the front of her kennel with an open mouth and soft wagging tail. Walked well on a semi-loose leash and remained relaxed in her kennel.

5/31/2026: Walked nicely on a loose leash and sought attention from staff and volunteers. Occasionally vocalized when she wanted interaction.

6/2/2026: Energetic and social with staff. Motivated by attention and would vocalize to get people to interact with her. Kept her kennel clean and showed little interest in other dogs.

6/4/2026: Vocalized in her kennel when people walked by but happily accepted treats and licked staff's hands while walking on leash. Spent most of the day quietly in her kennel.

6/6/2026: Energetic and friendly on walks to and from the runs. Curious about another dog she encountered and responded with loose tail wags.

6/7/2026: Walked on a loose leash and was energetic and social with staff and volunteers. Paid little attention to other dogs and kept her kennel clean.

6/8/2026: Vocalized at other dogs passing her kennel with dilated eyes, forward body posture, ears up, and a high wagging tail. Selected for an adoption evaluation.

6/9/2026: Greeted staff while resting at the front of her kennel with a soft wagging tail. Walked on a loose leash and kept to herself in the runs. Calm around other dogs and settled quietly on her bed afterward.

6/10/2026: Became vocal in her kennel when greeting staff at the front of her kennel with a wagging tail. Walked on a loose leash and was also vocal while outside. Returned to her kennel more relaxed.

🚑 Medical Notes:

5/20/2026: Heartworm test negative. Vaccinated with DA2PP-V, Bordetella, and Rabies. Dewormed and given flea prevention.

5/21/2026: Apparently already spayed; spay scar noted.

6/4/2026: Medical exam normal. Weighed 43.8 lbs.

Wiggly and floppy eared lab/gsd/etc mixes! Their skin didn't look too bad, 2 are super social, 1 was curious, and the other 2 were a bit more timid in the back, little cutie pies!

4 black small puppies, hanging out at the back of Cullen Auto Service with the mechanic, roaming back area unable to work on the cars due to dog
