It is with a very heavy heart that we say goodbye to our beloved patient of 4 years, Abby.

We will miss seeing her every week for PT. Her loving family always did an excellent job in keeping this golden girl happy and healthy.

Our favorite things about Miss Abby were her sassy personality and her beautiful, resilient spirit.

We are holding her and her family in our hearts.

Rest in love sweet girl 🤍

A good ole fashioned spay/neuter day is not something our schedule typically allows for - however, last week we had a very special day for a very special friend and supporter of our program.

In January of this year, Austin Dog Rescue founder Joyce Martin lost her beautiful granddaughter Audrianna. As a way to honor both Audrianna and Joyce our team made a promise to cover all surgery costs for a dog that came into rescue requiring surgery.

In March a very special dog came into Joyce's home - Ellie had a severely infected mammary gland which was surgical removed. A pathology report indicated cancer and normally a follow up procedure would have been scheduled immediately. However, Ellie was carrying puppies so the goal became to let her give birth and as soon as the puppies were weened she could receive what we hoped would be life saving surgery.

Sadly, several days before the procedure was to be schedule her body could no longer hold off the cancer that was taking her life and letting her go was decided as the best thing for her.

As Ellie was to be Audrianna's angel case - we all felt it only fitting that performing the spay/neuters on her kiddos was the very best way to honor everyone.

These pups were a handful to say the least - but a great day for the staff full of smiles and laughter!

Thursday, May 21st - Monday, May 25th
Veterinary Surgical Solutions
will be closed to give our team some well earned time off.

March 12th, 2020 we locked our doors for what was supposed to be our annual "spring break" ...

COVID-19 had different plans and with everyone's vacations cancelled we spent that week revamping our entire way of seeing patients and interacting with clients.

Monday, March 23rd we "opened" to a whole new world - over the past thirty-nine working days our team has performed 147 procedures, 100's of "electronic" appointments and a FULL schedule in our rehabilitation department.

Along the way we also held a fundraising event to help support local restaurants and several rescue groups. The results are in ... and with your support, we spent over $2400 with the restaurant partners and raised almost $3500 to help cover the surgery costs for some of Austin's local rescues.

Now, we need a break - the team has worked so hard and Dr. Lewis and I are incredibly thankful to have such a wonderful group of dedicated individuals as part of the team.

Austin veterinary clinic adapts during COVID-19 to help businesses, animal rescue groups

We wanted to take a moment to thank KXAN News for all the support they have provided Austin's animal rescue community over the years - they truly are a great friend to the Austin's four legged citizens.

Adapting to the times, north Austin’s Veterinary Surgical Solutions hosted a drive-through pop-up food shop for people and their lovable pups on Saturday.

" I will take a braised short rib dinner from Pink Avocado Catering for my humans and throw a couple extra of those pup cakes from Sprinkles Austin in for me and my sister Georgina"

Other's enjoyed sandwiches and wraps from Otherside Deli and Baby Greens.

If you have any experience with either working in a restaurant or within rescue you know that it is NOT for the faint at heart. Both are incredibly challenging in the "good times" so we really wanted to do something to help these great organizations.

Your support made this event a huge success - we don't have the final numbers as yet, but we do know that we raised enough money to know that at least three of the cases we needed to raise funds for will be able to get those life saving surgeries in the coming weeks.

Special thanks to Edward Flores and Mud Puppies, Jim Spencer along with CityDog Austin Kaxan for all the support and getting on the news!

Bob dodged a surgery today...he came in to have some stuffed balls removed from his tummy. Updated x-rays showed they were progressing through his intestinal track. He'll continue with fluid therapy and small meals and get rechecked for progress.
Mom and Dad are hopeful as we just repaired his broken leg 8 weeks ago. He's super cute but loves to get into TROUBLE.

Yesterday we were contacted by a client who has used our clinic for multiple surgeries on all their dogs - their 10 year old Husky was receiving supported care for a foreign body obstruction and needed surgery ASAP. We never like to say no, however the best option we had was to reschedule our calendar for surgery the following day. This was not ideal and so we joined the family in making calls to other clinics to see if she could receive life saving surgery that day.

We want to give a very grateful shoot out to New Hope Animal Hospital and their team who stepped up to save a life. We received word last night that surgery went well and a full recovery was expected.

Great job!

Just wanted you to know our Paddy boy wouldn't be back to tearing the house down if it weren't for you and your staff. Every day is a blessing and we are grateful for you!
Monty is home safe and sound from his leg amputation earlier today at Veterinary Surgical Solutions ❤️ He was born with a deformed foot and unfortunately this was the best choice for him to live a normal happy life but in a few weeks he will be as good as new!
Journey Pupdate! This sweet pupper has been making great strides (see what we did there?) in her rehabilitation. We're so grateful to the team at Veterinary Surgical Solutions for the hard work in helping her heal & for sharing this wonderful video with us. We think she looks *amazing*! New to Journey's story? Journey was found as a stray after being hit by a car. She was taken to an emergency vet, and the xrays revealed that she had a crushed pelvis and needed FHO surgery. We are continuing her rehabilitation here at the shelter, but we'd love to send her to a foster home to finish that out. Interested in fostering Journey? Email [email protected]. Journey's emergency care, surgery, and rehabilitaiton has cost over $4,000 so far. And we care for homeless pets like Journey every day, with the help of our local community. If you'd like to help us help Journey today, you can donate directly to our medical fund, Jane's Fund, via the Donate link found at the top of our Home page of our website, pets.wilco.org. With your support, we can help Journey and other pets like her get well and move on to happy & healthy lives in loving homes. Thank you for donating!
We’re so proud of the business partners we’ve had the privilege to help during the COVID-19 crisis! One of those businesses is Veterinary Surgical Solutions, who work tirelessly to provide affordable surgical options for pet owners in Central Texas. Because of their efforts, pet owners save on average 30% to 50% on the cost of care. Thank you for trusting us to finance your business and providing us feedback on our efforts. We sincerely appreciate it! “Like many, those first few days [of the PPP loan application process] were a scramble, as we all thought the funds would run out. It was obvious the [VeraBank] team was working around the clock. The process for distributing funds once the loan was funded was amazing. Not much these past four months has been certain – but I know one thing with absolute certainty – our business would not have received the PPP funds if we had not made the choice to go with the team at VeraBank.” Terry Hackworth and Kirk Lewis Owner/Operators Veterinary Surgical Solution

We just received the great news from Veterinary Surgical Solutions that Charleston is being released from their care! His new parents will continue to help him recover at home but he’s doing fabulously after his knee surgery! For those of you who don’t know Charleston, he was literally pulled from a ditch this summer. He required an emergency blood transfusion as he was dangerously anemic and he had a broken leg. He has made a full recovery thanks to donors, his amazing foster and new parents! We love you Charleston! And thank you to Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency, Tech Ridge Pet Hospital and Veterinary Surgical Solutions for being amazing vet partners! It took a village to save this sweet boy! And thank you to Lockhart Animal Shelter for trusting us with your animals.
Thank you for everything during our TPLO journey. 4 weeks post op today and she is doing great! You guys ROCK!!
It has been a little over a month since Adriana came to our rescue and we couldn’t be more excited to share that she officially joined our #fosterfail pack!!💕 We couldn’t be more happy for Adriana and her new forever family! She goes by Dria now and as you can see, she and her sister Lainey have become the best of friends. 💝THANK YOU again to everyone who was a part of Dria’s healing journey! She has definitely come a long way from being a forgotten friend, and it wouldn’t have been pawsible without your continued love and support! She is continuing to heal from her surgery and still has a few PT sessions left to go with our amazing friends at Veterinary Surgical Solutions. Photos by volunteer photographer SDLO Photo.
Thank you to our friends at Veterinary Surgical Solutions!
