Shared from Justice for Leia
It’s been two years since your life was taken from us…
Two years since our hearts were broken open…
Two years since Luke lost his twin sister, BFF, and partner-in-crime.
It’s been two years, and we have not forgotten.
Leia… Your life meant something, and we will continue to take a stand for what’s right.
If we can prevent even ONE dog and their family from experiencing something similar, just by sharing your story and other similar stories, we feel that your legacy lives on.
For anyone reading this, please practice deep discernment when selecting dog care providers such as dog sitters, boarding facilities, trainers, and groomers.
What you MUST understand is that there are little to no regulations for these types of providers.
ANYONE can claim to be a dog sitter, but that doesn’t make them capable of taking care of dogs, nor does it mean that they are responsible.
Platforms such as ‘Rover’ do not qualify dog sitters—anyone can create an account and despite what people assume, these ’sitters’ are not fully vetted by Rover (we did not use Rover but we’ve heard of 500+ similarly tragic stories from people who used that platform. )
You also cannot rely on reviews alone. People are quick to leave good reviews but many people who have bad experiences hold back on sharing a negative review.
If more people shared their negative experiences PRIOR to June 26, 2022, we would have never left Leia with that ‘dog-sitter.’
With all of that said, there are good dog care providers out there. It just takes a lot of due diligence to find them.

🐾 Are licensed and insured
🐾 Are a registered business
🐾 Are qualified to take care of dogs (pet first aid and CPR certified at a minimum)
🐾 Have vetted reviews
🐾 Have working cameras on site
🐾 Have an emergency plan in place for fires or in case your dog gets sick, injured, etc
🐾 Have working fire alarms, sprinklers, and extinguishers on site
🐾 Have air conditioning and/or appropriate ventilation
🐾 Have someone present with the dogs at all times
🐾 Do not accept more dogs than they can handle (my new rule of thumb: 1 person per 3 dogs)
🐾 Do not leave dogs locked in crates (and that crates are appropriately sized)
🐾 Have their own strict vetting process for accepting dogs
🐾 Offer meet and greets and/or tours of the facility
🐾 Offers a way to share updates/photos
🐾 Offer a clear agreement, in writing
It’s been two years, and we’re still standing in truth, because the truth will always prevail. We will continue to take a stand for Leia, and for all of our fellow fur-families.
Leia… We love you and miss you so much, baby girl.
