The best way to get a great recall is lots of reinforcement and not letting them fail. For every missed recall you take 2 steps back. It’s so important to only call your dog if you 100% know they will come. If not..use a leash and practice on leash!

For those wondering what’s been going on at Good Karma K9. Journey and I had the amazing opportunity to attend a Kelsey Kirkpatrick seminar. Kelsey is a 4 time National Champion with 3 different dogs. 25 plus time regional champion with 4 different dogs. We had a blast! Never stop learning and growing!

The news of the abuse at Cypress Arrow dog training is absolutely awful and shocking. I am heartbroken. I started Good Karma K9 to give dogs and their owners the training and help that they deserve. This is why I do what I do. I wanted to give a safe and positive place for dogs and their humans. I wanted to flip the script for dog training and show that it can be done without harshness and negativity. I appreciate all of the owners that have trusted me with their dogs. They become like family when they are here. I’m so grateful to be able to do this and I will continue to spread light and kindness with dog training.

Some of you may know that my 6 month old puppy “Journey” is being trained to be my service dog.

One of her tasks will be gluten detection.

Excited to say we are partnering with 4 PAWS Rescue, INC. and Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter - OPAS

We will offer discounted training for adopted dogs when you bring proof of adoption.

We are also excited to offer the option of letting us find the perfect rescue dog for you for a discounted training fee!

We will get a list of your wants/needs in a dog, your hobbies, and other lifestyle information and match you with the perfect dog. Then that dog will go through our basic obedience program before going to their new home. This makes it an easy transition for you and the dog and sets them up for success in their new lives.

We can’t wait to spread some to rescue dogs!

It is so important to respect leash laws! It is for everyone’s safety!

Phrases that can ruin a lovely walk- "Don't worry. He's friendly."

But...
What if my dog isnt?
What if my dog is ill?
What if my dog is recovering from surgery?
What if my dog is training?
What if we simply don't want to say hi?

If you're in an area where leashes are required, please follow those rules. Also, if your dog is off leash, you should still be attentive to them and have a solid recall in place. Solid recall does not include screaming your dog's name from a km away while s/he barrels toward us, pretending you don't exist.

Let's make it so we can ALL enjoy the great outdoors.
