Linda is available for adoption!
She is a 16 (ish) week old Boxer mix!
Fully vaccinated and spayed.
Linda is crate trained and sleeping through the night, as long as she stays in a routine she doesn’t have any potty accidents inside.
She’s been introduced to obedience commands such as loose leash walking, sit, place, and coming when called.
She’s been socialized to dogs and cats, all of which she absolutely loves! She’s got lots of toy drive with potential to be a great frisbee dog. This girl is extremely confident and smart, she picks up on training very fast and over comes new obstacles with ease. With as much energy as she has, she’s also the best snuggle buddy!
DM for Adoption application!
Rehoming fee $200
(Located in Hutto, TX)

How to choose the best training program for your dog….

Board & Train:
In this program your dog will live in home or at a training facility. During this time the trainer works towards teaching your dog basic obedience commands.
This type of program is best suited for the person with a busy lifestyle that may not have time to do the daily repetition work that is required for a dog to learn. The benefit of this type of program is someone else taking over to teaching faze so you get to step in at the end and work on the maintenance part of training. HOWEVER, it is important to mention that just because you send your dog to training does not mean they will come back to you “fixed” or perfect. There is still work for the owner to do after a board and train program but it tends to be much easier once the dog understands the commands.

Private Lessons:
This type of program is great for someone who wants to learn along side their dog. In this program the trainer is instructing the human how to train their dog. The big benefit to this style of training is gaining an education on how to train commands from the very beginning. The downfall to this style of program is that it may take longer because you are learning how to handle you dog which takes time and practice.

When deciding between the two it really comes down to how much time you have to dedicate to your dog on a daily basis. There is no wrong choice, it’s all up to you and your pup!

For those of you that are new to my page, allow me to re-introduce myself!

My name is Morgan Starr, I am a Certified Dog Trainer and Behavior Specialist located in Austin, Texas! I have been training dogs for the past 7 years for various companies and in 2021 I started my very own business, Wild Dogs!

I’ve trained professional hunting dogs, dock diving, trick training, and frisbee work! I’ve dabbled in a few different dog worlds but I also come back to the basics, pet dogs!

I think what makes me a unique trainer is my ability to train the HUMANS!! Anyone can train dogs, it’s the humans that tend to be a little tricky, haha! My number one goal is to educate dog owners on how to give their pup a more fulfilling life through proper communication. The more people I educate the more happy dogs the world has! 🌈🐾

Believe it or not, YOU are a reward!

I see too many dog owners giving their dog love and affection for all kinds of behaviors, good and bad. The attention you give your dog reinforces the behavior they are displaying.

If you love on your dog when they jump on you, it reinforces jumping.

If you chase after your dog when they play keep away, it reinforces running away.

If you give your dog snacks from your plate, it reinforces table begging.

You don’t have to reply on treats to get your dog to behave. Instead, ignore/correct the bad behaviors and give your love and affection to the more positive ones.

Use your love and affection to your advantage and stop giving it out for free!

It’s official, WE’RE MOVING!!!!

Thanks to all the growth and support Wild Dogs has received this year, my fiancé and I are able to take the next step in our lives and move to a 20 acre ranch!!!!!!! Don’t worry, we are still located in Hutto and in a more convenient location close to the toll road.

SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES!!!!

I want to thank all of my clients for trusting me with their dogs and getting me to this point of growth. I hope to open up a few more spots so previous clients will always have a safe place to bring their dog when they are away.

We will be moving within the next two weeks and I will update y’all once we’re settled. I am so excited to share this journey with you!!!

Let’s get Wild Dogs 🌈🐾

My dog Scout hates fireworks! Here’s my yearly routine to prepare her for the night.

1. I take her for a long hike during the day to tire her out physically.
2. I feed her an early dinner to make sure she has plenty of time to go to the bathroom before nightfalls.
3. I prepare a lick mat with her favorite treats on it (pumpkin, peanut butter, yogurt, mashed blueberries) and put it in the freezer. When a dog licks it releases endorphins and helps soothe anxiety.
4. By 9pm, I put her in her crate with the lick mat and her favorite blanket. I cover the crate with another blanket so she can’t see out.
5. I play classical music in the background along with a loud fan to drown out the sounds of fireworks.

For dogs with extreme anxiety you can give melatonin to help them relax and fall asleep. Administer 1mg of melatonin per 20 pounds of your dogs weight.

Every Christmas morning as a little girl I dreamed of waking up to a whimpering, bow tied box, with a little puppy nestled inside. I have to admit, even as an adult I fantasized about what it would be like to get that kind of surprise, and then I remember how much work it is to raise a puppy and quickly forget that thought.

Every holiday season people gift puppies as presents and every spring the shelters are at FULL capacity with those same puppies.

Giving a puppy as a present is asking someone to take on a 14 year commitment that comes with all the struggles and hardships of raising a dog.

So, this holiday season think twice before gifting someone a dog. Getting a dog is a huge responsibility and picking the right dog for your lifestyle is a big decision that should be made by the owner, not a gift giver.

Giving your dog a treat when they are barking, lunging, growling, digging, jumping, pulling, etc. may interrupt the behavior in the moment but it does not eliminate the behavior from happening again. This method distracts the dog momentarily but it does not mean they won’t try those negative behaviors again.

In most cases, when a dog displays a behavior we see as negative they are self rewarding, this means they are gaining something from that experience. When a dog is rewarding themselves it can be very difficult to find a treat that beats their own reward.

At a certain point, treats DO NOT beat chasing the squirrel, digging in your garden, or fence fighting with your neighbors dog.

Treats are an amazing tool to teach new behaviors but tend to fall short when eliminating the bad ones.

This is why I use a balanced training method!

Have you ever watched Charlie Brown and listened to the way the parents sound??

“Wahh wa wahh wah wah waaahh”

THIS is what I imagine our dogs hear when we talk to them in full sentences.

Dogs can learn many words but their vocabulary is still limited compared to ours. The best way to have CLEAR communication with your dog is to say LESS!!

Rather than saying…
“Fluffy can you sit for me please? Can you be the best boy and sit for mommy?”
Instead try…
“Sit.”

Plain and simple is the key to clarity when communicating with your dog.

Just because a dog is cute or looks cool doesn’t mean they are the right fit for you!

The biggest mistake you could make when adopting a new pet is basing it off their looks. Instead you should think about your lifestyle and what kind of dog fits into it.

Adopt a dog because of their temperament, not their looks!

Spending some one on one time with my girl Scout!

It’s easy for me to devote all my time to client dogs to make sure they are getting the most care and attention. However, in doing that, my own dog gets pushed to the bottom right of the priority list. I stress to my clients all the time that you have to MAKE time for your dog, it’s time I start following my own advice. There’s always time in the day to give your pet the attention they need!!

After one week of training, here’s our progress report on teaching “outside”.

“Why does my dog listen better at home than in public?”

When a dog is in a familiar environment, YOU are the most interesting thing in the room. When you go to a new environment there are all kinds of new sounds, smells, and distractions to explore.

The key to training in new environments is to make yourself the most interesting thing in the room no matter where you are. This can be done with treats, praise, or leash communication. Ask that they keep their attention and focus on you in new environments and not on their surroundings. This doesn’t mean they can never interact in new environments, it means there are times to stay focused and other times where you get to explore. It is up to YOU to communicate when that time is.
