I had such a wonderful time with Mini & Frankie this past week! We had playtime, cuddles, repetition training, sunbathing, and sound healing.
When i first introduced Mini & Frankie to the flute 🪈, they weren't fans of it and left the room. This does happen depending on the acoustics in the area, when that happens I put my instrument away & let them come back to me on their own terms. Throughout the week, I would pull the flute out & play until they walked away, always lower & softer than the day before. This helps dogs into the flute sound. By the end of the week, they were comfortable enough to stay in the room! Some dogs absolutely love the flute from the beginning & others need to acclimate.
Outside of the flute, I sang to them & played my brass sound bowl. Frankie especially loved the singing ❤️ Mini was so-so 🤣 about both the bowl & the singing.
The first day Frankie was a little shy around me, but by the time I decided to lay down he was all about laying on me & wanted all the cuddles.
Mini was a lover girl from the start! She loves attention but also enjoys her space & doing her own thing.
During my sits, I always work on a little bit of training as repetition & consistency helps with enrichment. We worked on leave it & focus. Those are 2 of my favorite cues to teach as many dogs have impulse control issues when it comes to high risk distractions such as food, doors, and sounds.
Focus helps to create pet parent connection and a check-in before focusing on the reward. Leave it helps to curb that impulse control. Frankie was great woth leave it, Mini was great with focus.
Doing this also helps me gage where each individual dog is in their traing process & knowing which cues need extra attention.
Play time consisted of lots of tug & squeaky toys & chase. These are all great enrichment activities that helps get energy out as well make them think. I cant wait to see these babies again!
