🧾 Proof of ownership is required to reclaim your animal. Acceptable forms of proof include vet records, microchip information, bill of sale, or other documentation clearly linking you to the animal. If none of these are available, a clear photo of your pet may be accepted as verification.
📅 After the 5-day hold, unclaimed animals become the property of the City of Aurora and are evaluated for adoption or placement opportunities.

Ruby, our longest resident, was sponsored to participate in a spokesdog competition. This competition is not only about the bragging rights of having her face on a can, but also getting her name out there to potential adopters. Ruby has spent over a YEAR in our shelter. Money is a true survivor with the softest heart (and a major love for snacks). He’s been around the block—literally—twice as an injured stray, and let’s just say the streets aren’t his style. Congratulations to all the wonderful animals who left the shelter last week!✨
3 animals were adopted!
🐾 1 dog and 2 cats were adopted
🏡 7 dogs and 1 cat were reunited with their loving families
🚗 2 dogs, 6 cats, 1 rabbit, and 1 bearded dragon were transferred to rescue partners
Weekly WOW: We were visited by a very special friend last week! This little guy was found wandering the sidewalks of Aurora, obviously not his native habitat. We called our friends at the Chicago Herpetological Society who took him in to ensure he had proper care and finds a great new home
