Thank you to everyone who came out last weekend to raise funds for Aurora's shelter animals. We raised $880.22 and met some wonderful people, amazing rescue dogs and their humans, and reconnected with some friends we have not seen for awhile. Thank you shoppers, and those who helped with the sale in any way, we could not have done it without each and every one of you.

Our homemade catnip balls are once again available for sale at the shelter for $3.00 each. Our kitty friends rave about them. While you're there, take a walk through the shelter to see our amazing cats and dogs available for adoption. We currently have rabbits and guinea pigs available as well.

Recently, three animals came to the shelter and they needed some extra medical help before they could be adopted.

The Friends of Aurora (Illinois) Animal Control came through to help.

1) Hera (originally named "Teagan") - A beautiful diluted tortie that was picked up at a home in the villages. 3 days later we got a phone call from the same family. Apparently mama tunneled under on the side of their front porch and made a home for her babies, 6 to be exact. At the time they were about 3 weeks hold. Mama was frantic at the shelter until we reunited her with those babies and ended up being a wonderful mother and I was able to foster them Mama ended up being felv positive, had a severe bladder infection, giardia and tapeworms. On 4/30/19 we had the felv antigen IFA test done which came back negative, yeah!!! and all her babies have been adopted. - TOTAL COST - $85.18, there will be some additional costs in May and will get back to you with that for additional approval.

2) Daiquiri - was found on the side of the road and was immediately taken to Oswego AH She had to have her rear right leg amputated. She was put on the adoption floor and was eventually pulled by the rescue. - TOTAL COST - $700.00

3) Fergus - was brought in by a citizen with an injured right front paw that was swollen and very infected. He was immediately taken to Oswego AH for treatment to try and save the paw, which they did. Fergus was adopted by one of their technicians, this is the 3rd one of our special cases that she has adopted.

The TOTAL COST- $783.49

Here is another way in which Friends of Aurora Animal Control and Care helped recently:

The shelter had a father/son come in Thursday with their 3 month old husky puppy who was running down the stairs with their other dog and got tangled up falling down the steps and injured his leg. They took the puppy to Banfield AH where an xray was done but they referred them to VCA for treatment. They were told that the leg was broke and it would cost them $5,000. to fix. They brought in his pain meds and a CD w/the xray. We suggested they get a 2nd opinion because VCA tends to be on the higher side but financially they were just not able. So, I reached out to Rose and Betty yesterday for their input on getting a 2nd opinion in treatment for this puppy. We sent him to Oswego AH where the xray was reviewed and no surgery is needed, the leg will just be splinted until it can heal. Help Save Pets, a rescue group who adopts animals out of Oswego AH agreed to take the puppy and he will be in foster care until he is ready for adoption through them. A very minimal expense for us and a wonderful outcome for this puppy. The father and son thanked us when they left, with tears in their eyes, for giving their puppy a second chance.
