A question I get asked a lot is:

“How can I help you and your business?”

And honestly, I appreciate that more than people probably realize.

I’ve had people ask if they can invest.

I’ve had people ask if I need to borrow money.

I’ve had people ask what they can do to help Doc X Pet Shop become real.

And I mean this sincerely:

Thank you.

That support means a lot.

But I’ll be honest — I’m not looking for investors or business partners.

I don’t want to owe people money, especially people I know personally. I’ve been in situations before where help came with strings attached, and I don’t want that for this business.

I also want to keep full control over how Doc X Pet Shop operates.

The animals I sell.

The products I carry.

The care standards.

The policies.

The customer experience.

The direction of the store.

This business is personal to me, and I want to build it the right way.

But there are still a lot of ways you can help.

Like, comment, and share my posts.

Invite friends to follow the page.

Tell people about the shop.

Tag someone who loves reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, birds, or weird animal facts.

Give me ideas for products you wish pet stores carried.

Tell me what you like or dislike about other pet shops.

Word of mouth helps more than people realize.

And if you really want to help in a physical way, small things like cleaning supplies, paper towels, pens, binders, or random store supplies are honestly useful too.

And if you really want to give me money…

I mean, I’m not going to tackle you in the parking lot to stop you.

But just know it would be support, not an investment or ownership stake.

More than anything though, the messages mean a lot.

Every time someone tells me they believe in this dream, that they’re excited for the store, or that they can’t wait to visit…

That keeps me going.

This has been stressful, expensive, slow, exciting, frustrating, and rewarding all at the same time.

So thank you to everyone who has supported Doc X Pet Shop in any way.

Even a simple share, comment, or kind message helps.

🔥 Hot Take:

Don’t get a “beginner pet.”

Get a pet you actually want and are willing to research properly.

I know that sounds backwards, because people usually ask:

“What’s the easiest pet?”

But easy can turn into bored really fast.

Far too many people get an animal just because someone told them it was “low maintenance” or “good for beginners,” and then they realize they aren’t actually interested in that animal long-term.

That’s not fair to the pet.

Instead, look for an animal that fits your lifestyle, your budget, your space, your schedule, and your actual interests.

Then do the research.

Not the bare minimum research.

Not “what can it survive in?” research.

I mean:

How do I help this animal thrive?
What size enclosure does it really need?
What diet is best?
What lighting, heat, humidity, enrichment, social needs, or vet care does it require?

Pets are supposed to be enjoyable. You should be excited to care for them, watch them, learn about them, and give them the best life you can.

But no animal should be treated like a practice round.

Get the pet you genuinely want.

Just make sure you know what you’re getting into first.

Opening a business isn’t just fixing up the space, buying shelving, and ordering inventory.

There are so many little things you don’t really think about until you’re actually doing it.

Employees Only signs.

Store hours.

Wet floor signs.

Shopping baskets.

Cleaning supplies.

Trash cans.

Labels.

Pens.

Clipboards.

Random little things that somehow all matter.

Today’s little win: I scored these shopping baskets for customers to use once Doc X Pet Shop opens.

Not the flashiest update in the world, but honestly, this stuff matters.

I want people to be able to walk in, shop comfortably, grab what they need, and feel like the store was actually thought through.

Sometimes progress looks like new flooring.

Sometimes progress looks like permits and contractors.

And sometimes progress looks like a stack of shopping baskets.

Little wins add up.

Slowly but surely, the bigger picture is coming together.

Had some amazingly helpful friends come by and help me set up shelves and enclosures.

Even with the AC not working. 😭😄

Things are coming along nicely.

You know what’s wild about growing up in the “late 1900s,” as kids apparently call it now?

Rabbit feet.

We really walked around with a cut-off rabbit foot clipped to our backpacks or shoved in our pockets like:

“Yep. This is normal. This will bring me luck.”

Some were natural.

Some were dyed bright colors.

Because apparently someone looked at a dead rabbit foot and said:

“You know what this needs? Neon pink.”

And the wildest part?

They marketed these things to kids.
You could go to Chuck E. Cheese, win enough tickets, and instead of getting a plastic spider ring or a tiny parachute guy, you could proudly walk out with a severed rabbit foot keychain.

Childhood was lawless.

And we all thought it was lucky.

Like, imagine explaining that to a kid today:

“Here you go, buddy. A preserved animal foot. Clip it to your backpack for good fortune.”

The 90s and early 2000s were a different planet.

Open a business, they said.

It’ll be fun, they said.

Morgan Freeman voice:

It was not fun.

But Eddie had already signed the lease, bought shelving, closed on the loan, learned way too much about HVAC, permits, flooring, electrical circuits, wholesale pricing, and business insurance…

…and unfortunately for his stress levels, he was already too deep and too passionate to quit.
So here we are.

Still tired.

Still learning.

Still slightly confused.

Still building Doc X Pet Shop.

One mildly traumatic business lesson at a time. 😄
