Norway trail race starts up tomorrow!
To the wonderful people of Beitostølen,
As many of you have probably noticed by now, the Norway-Trail sled dog race is in the process of establishing itself here in Beitostølen.
We run stages every morning in the cross-country ski trails through Saturday. Saturday is the highlight of the week: a spectacular mass start in the alpine slope, where all teams start simultaneously.
Each evening, we will post the plan for the following day on this page.
Tomorrow’s route is shown here. The start is at 10:00, and the entire stage will likely be completed by around 12:00.
Start and finish are located below Beito Resort Hotel.
At 13:00 there will be a stage award ceremony outside Beito Resort Hotel. There will also be grilled food available for purchase. Everyone is welcome.
Information for skiers
The ski trails used for the race remain open to skiers.
We kindly ask skiers to keep to the side of the trail when teams are passing. If you are skiing with a dog, please keep it close to you as sled dog teams approach. Dog teams can be surprisingly quiet when catching up, and they often travel at speeds above 30 km/h.
If you suddenly notice a line of dogs approaching from behind, simply stay calm and maintain your direction. The teams are used to passing both people and animals.
Stake-out area
The stake-out (where the dogs are housed) is also located below Beito Resort Hotel. Around 500 dogs will be staying there throughout the week.
Everyone is warmly welcome to visit the mushers and greet their dogs. However, please remember to ask the dog owners before approaching or petting any dogs.
Kind regards,
The Norway-Trail Team
