Our Story

WE LOVE WHAT WE DO

The Triple J Ranch was homesteaded in 1921 as a land grant. Cattle and hay were raised on the ranch until the late 1930’s. But because of the pristine location, proximity to the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and abundance of wildlife, outfitting for hunting of elk, deer and bear began. The name of the Ranch came from a cattle brand, and you’ll see our horses with JJJ on their left hip.

Max and Ann Barker purchased the ranch in 1976 and spent many years turning a run-down hunting lodge into a dude ranch. While they have since passed on, they left a wonderful legacy. Ernie and Kim Barker, along with daughter, Hayley actively manage the ranch today. Ernie is a licensed outfitter with the Montana Board of Outfitters and a permittee on the Lewis and Clark and Flathead National Forest. We're passionate about this area and our industry and are very involved in our local community. Our family is committed to providing a top-notch and unforgettable vacation.

Perfect for singles, couples, or families who want to ride, fish, hike or just plain relax. We offer an all-inclusive Sunday to Saturday ranch week which includes all meals, private log cabin accommodations, and unlimited activities. The Ranch has an informal atmosphere offering a blend of the West with the comforts of home. Cozy cabins are nestled between the aspen and the spruce. Each cabin is modern and unique. The main lodge with its western charm is a fun spot for meals and social gathering. Wholesome, hearty home-style meals feature traditional cowboy cook-outs, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and home-made breads & goodies like Grandma used to make. We offer a quality riding program with mountain savvy quarter horses. This pristine location allows for unlimited outdoor opportunities. Fantastic fly-fishing, guided interpretive tours, simple mountain climbing, endless hiking opportunities, and wildlife watching provide a blend of relaxation and excitement. Enjoy soaking in the hot tub after a fun filled day and then tell tall tales, sing a tune or relate cowboy poetry around the campfire for a relaxing end to a busy day at the Triple J. For those who can’t get enough adventure, the Ranch also offers horse pack-trips into the famous Bob Marshall Wilderness. This "crown jewel" of the wilderness system is over a million acres of roadless, unspoiled forest. Our fully-outfitted pack-trips offer itineraries from base-camp oriented to trips that traverse the wilderness. Our professional staff will ensure a four-star adventure where you can rough it in comfort. For over forty years, our family has provided authentic western vacations to folks from all over the world.
