Everyone is used to me posting about all the good dogs but today, let’s talk about the bad boy. 😂

Meet Copper. 😈🐾

Copper bites and screams when it’s time to do his nails, then has an absolute meltdown when the dryer comes out. The drama is unmatched. 🤣🤣

He’s a rescue who now lives a very spoiled, very good life… so you’d think he would appreciate his spa days a little more than he does! 😂

But underneath all that attitude, we still love him. Even the naughty ones deserve to look handsome! ❤️

🐾 A Well-Earned Spa Day for Lottie 🤎

This sweet girl is Lottie, a 10-year-old smooth coat Border Collie who has spent her life doing what she was born to do—working cattle on a ranch. 🐄

Today, her rancher brought her in for a good scrub and spa day simply because he wanted to show his appreciation for the loyal friend and hardworking partner she’s been all these years. And I absolutely loved that. ❤️

These are some of my favorite dogs to work on. They don’t live pampered lives. They get dirty. They work long days. They have grit, toughness, intelligence, and a job they take seriously.

As I was grooming Lottie, I kept looking into her eyes and thinking, this girl knows things. You could just see how smart she is and how much pride she’s taken in her work over the years.

Growing up around farmers and ranchers gave me a deep love and respect for this way of life, so dogs like Lottie are extra special to me. There’s just something about an old working dog who has spent her life beside her person, earning her keep and becoming so much more than “just a dog.”

Today was Lottie’s turn to be taken care of. And she certainly earned it. 🤎🐾🐄

🐶 Let’s Talk About a First Groom Experience (No Matter Their Age!) ✂️💙

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is:

“This isn’t what I paid for.”
“Why isn’t the haircut perfectly even?”

Here’s the reality…

A dog’s first groom is a lot like taking a toddler for their very first haircut.

Imagine asking a barber to give a flawless fade to an 85-pound toddler who’s never seen clippers before. They’re wiggling, sitting down, trying to lick everything, flopping over, pawing at the groomer, and wondering why a stranger is touching them.

Now imagine expecting perfection from that. 😅

A first groom is not about perfection.
It’s about building trust.

My priorities during a first groom are:
🐾 Keep your dog safe.
🐾 Create a positive experience.
🐾 Teach them how to be groomed.
🐾 Build confidence so future appointments get better and better.

Could I wrestle a puppy into standing perfectly still? Probably.

Will I? Absolutely not.

I will never trade a dog’s safety or emotional well-being for a prettier haircut.

If your dog’s very first grooming appointment results in a haircut that’s a little uneven but they leave happy, trusting, and excited to come back, that’s a successful first groom.

If you’re expecting a first-time puppy to stand like a seasoned show dog, your expectations—not your groomer—may need a little training too. 😉

Every great grooming dog starts somewhere, and I’d rather build a lifetime of positive experiences than win a one-day beauty contest.

Thank you to the clients who understand that good grooming isn’t just about what your dog looks like when they leave—it’s about how they feel coming back.

Wishing all of our wonderful clients a fun, safe, and happy holiday weekend filled with family, friends, good food, and a few spoiled pups! 🐾🎆

We will be closed for the holiday weekend and will reopen on Tuesday.

If your furry friend is due for a spa day, be sure to get on the books! The next few months are already filling up fast, and appointments are going quickly. 😜

This handsome Golden Retriever came in for a good scrub and a much-needed de-shed after living his best farm life. 🌾🚜

Friendly neighborhood groomer announcement. 😅

I am a one-woman show, not a call center.

I do not send reminder calls or reminder texts for appointments. If you called, texted, or messaged me to make an appointment, please write it down somewhere. Put it in your phone, on your fridge, tattoo it on your forehead… whatever works. 😂

I also do not answer my phone after 4 PM, on weekends, or holidays. If you text or call me at 8 PM on a Saturday of a holiday weekend, please understand I’m not ignoring you. I’m simply off work and enjoying my life just like everyone else.

When I’m grooming, my focus is on the dog in front of me, not my phone. So if I don’t answer immediately, please be patient. I promise I’ll return your call or text as soon as I can.

I know this isn’t the “big corporate business” way of doing things, but Dog Shoppe is still a small mom-and-pop operation, and that’s exactly how I like it.

Thanks to all of my awesome clients who understand, support small business, and remember their own appointments. ❤️🐾
