Upgrading your phone or laptop? Don’t place the old phone or computer in the trash or in with your recyclables. These items can create a fire hazard in the truck, at the recycling center, or at the landfill. Take the items to a drop-off site for electronics recycling or check with the business where you purchased the new item to see if they take back old devices for recycling.

Headed off to college or moving your teen into a dorm? Move-in day can be stressful and wasteful. Don’t forget to recycle your packaging materials. Look for drop-off sites near residential housing like the ones we spotted at Georgia Tech. These easy-to-spot signs and convenient locations make it easy for students and their families to recycle and reduce contamination.

Don’t forget to place a deskside recycling container in the dorm room. Remember to check to see what items can be recycled on campus; the list of accepted materials may be different from the items you could recycle at home. Have a great school year!

Replacing an ink cartridge? Cartridges are recyclable!

Don’t toss cartridges in the trash or in your recycling bin or cart. Take the used cartridges to your office supply retailer (e.g., Office Depot, Staples, or Target) or a local Best Buy store for recycling. Many manufacturers offer mail-in recycling options, too.
