After her family's car rolled over on a highway in British Columbia, a frightened Australian shepherd named Daisy ran into the woods and disappeared. For three long days, her family searched desperately, hoping she would somehow find her way back.
As the search continued, Forrest Kellerman, a volunteer with Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSR), learned about Daisy while responding to an unrelated call nearby. Although searching for missing pets isn't part of the organization's official mandate, the story stayed with him. As the owner of two Australian shepherds himself, he decided to help.
On Sunday and Monday, Forrest spent his own time methodically searching the logging roads and forest surrounding the crash site, but Daisy was nowhere to be found.
Then, on Tuesday evening, Forrest and his wife, Tracey, headed out for one last search.
At around 7 p.m., Tracey spotted something she could hardly believe.
Sitting patiently in the passenger seat of one of the vehicles involved in the accident was Daisy.
After spending three nights alone in the wilderness, the loyal dog had somehow found her way back to the last place she had seen her family and waited for them to return.
Forrest quickly contacted Daisy's owners, who were still searching nearby, and within moments they were reunited with their beloved dog.
While finding lost pets isn't officially part of search and rescue work, the skills these volunteers learn can sometimes make miracles like this possible.
And for one worried family, it meant bringing Daisy home. ❤️
