April is National Pet First Aid Month!

As an exotic pet owner, it's essential to be prepared for any emergency situation that may arise.

Did you know:

Many exotic pets have specific first aid requirements due to their unique anatomy and physiology.
Knowing basic first aid techniques can significantly improve your pet's chances of survival in an emergency.

Learning basic first aid techniques, such as wound cleaning and bandaging, and recognizing signs of distress.
Keeping a pet first aid kit on hand.
Consulting with our experienced veterinarian to develop a customized emergency plan for your exotic pet.

Some essential items to include in your exotic pet first aid kit:

Towels and blankets for restraint and warmth.
Critical care feed.
A pet carrier or transport box for safe transportation.
A hospital tank for your reptiles.

Here are some common health issues in bearded dragons:

1. *Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD)*: Caused by lack of calcium, vitamin D3, UVB lighting or parasitism .

2. *Impaction*: Blockage of the digestive tract due to eating substrate, large foods, or constipation.

3. *Respiratory infections*: Often caused by poor hygiene, inadequate ventilation, or stress. Can also be secondary to parasitism

4. *Dehydration*: Inadequate water intake or improper humidity levels.

5. *Parasites*: Internal (e.g., pinworms) or external (e.g., mites).

6. *Dysecdysis*: Difficulty shedding skin, often due to inadequate humidity or nutrition.

7. *Hypovitaminosis A*: Deficiency in vitamin A, leading to swollen eyes, lethargy, and skin problems.

8. *Stress*: Caused by changes in environment, handling, or inadequate care.

If you suspect any health issues with your bearded dragon, consult a veterinarian experienced in reptile care.

Bonnie update! This sweet girl is thriving!! She is doing so well since we weaned the puppies and has truly found her personality!
She underwent surgery to get spayed and is recovering well from it!
Bonnie has the staff wrapped around her paws! She enjoys napping in their arms as they are doing office work and loves following them around the clinic as they are cleaning❤️

Adoption update for mr. Glenn now shug! He didn’t go far as one of our staff members welcomed him into her forever home! He is joined by 3 big sisters and some fuzzy cats! He is spoiled as all get out and growing like a w**d!

Miss Lynn was the first one to leave us and she didn’t go far! Her new family are local to Auburn but that doesn’t stop them from traveling all over with Lynn! She lives with her new mommy, daddy and big German shepherd sister Roxy! We can’t wait to see where else she gets to travel as we watch her grow!

Mr. Finn found his forever family in Columbus GA! He resides with his new mommy, daddy, along with his furry and scaly brothers and sisters! He has learned how to use his voice and is already spoiled rotten! We can not wait to watch him grow up! So happy for him and his forever family!

Kitten season is upon us at All Creatures Veterinary Clinic! These sweet 4 week old kittens were brought in today to get their litter deworming and were just cute as can be!

Miss Quinn was adopted to her forever home! She got to go on an airplane ride and is now the newest resident of Maryland where she lives with her new mommy, daddy and big 98 # brother! We are so glad she found her forever family❤️❤️
