UPDATE: Accountant has a foster! 🙌
But if you’re even thinking about fostering bottle babies in the future — please apply now.
We constantly get cases like this, and having fosters ready before the emergency makes all the difference.

🚨 BOTTLE BABY FOSTER NEEDED 🚨

This is Accountant.
No, he doesn’t know QuickBooks.

He was found alone in the middle of US 6 — no mom, no siblings, just tiny and screaming like tax season came early.

We need a foster ASAP.
He’s itty bitty.
He needs round-the-clock care.
He will absolutely scream at you like you’re late on a deadline.

📞 If you’re already an approved foster, call us NOW.
📝 Not a foster yet? Head to our website and fill out the foster form.
(We’ll get back to you fast — Accountant doesn’t have time for red tape.)

We’ve got the supplies.
You bring the warmth, bottles, and baby voice.

Let’s get Accountant somewhere safe. 💼🐾

🚨 CURLY FRY: LUCKY TO BE BORN IN THIS CENTURY 🚨

If Curly Fry had been born in 1848, she’d have been buried just outside Fort Laramie with a little pixelated tombstone reading “died of dysentery.”
Lucky for her, she was born in 2023 and only had to endure modern medicine, disinfectant wipes, and us loudly discussing her p**p texture like it was a fine wine.

Now? She’s diarrhea-free, dangerously adorable, and absolutely ready to be some little girl’s lifelong emotional support purse accessory.

👑 The Princess Package:
• Carry her around? She melts.
• Hug her? She’ll burrow in.
• Playtime? She’s already mid-pounce.

💅 Her tiny, perfect nose looks like it was sculpted by a celebrity plastic surgeon, and we’re still waiting on his business card.

📏 Stats:
• Name: Curly Fry (crinkle-cut royalty)
• Age: About 2 years
• Former condition: Less than 4 lbs and full of fleas
• Current condition: Glowed up, vetted, thriving
• Time served: 40 days. WAY too long.

She’s lived through conditions worse than the Oregon Trail, flea anemia, and 40 days in our care — and we refuse to let her spend another weekend here. Come get your new best friend before she packs her satchel and heads west without you.

This evening I had a discussion with a Resident about stray cats. I asked if they had plans for them. He replied they were looking at finding a farm for them. I offered to take to the Humane shelter. He told me he didn't want that. Not knowing I did volunteer work with the shelter, I inquired why. He commented that when the shelter gets full they euthanize.

To the citizens, businesses and governments in Dekalb county let me state we NEVER euthanize for this reason. The only time we do is for health reasons and when that is needed we always get a veterinarian opinion to warrant such drastic action. Again I emphasize we NEVER put an animal down except for health necessities.

It is obvious we have an incorrect understanding and perception of the Shelter, in public and with government officials. We publish all our required details on our website, Daily Facebook postings related to all topics involving the shelter, and we share with local news networks, radio stations and other information sites as we can. But we need to do more to get all of the county to understand what we do.

Our primary function is simple, we intake, process, update with meds, shots, chips as needed and rehome. Caring for the animals and finding them new homes is our #1 mission. Somewhere we have not fully shared that mission with all, so I hope we can get the word out about who we are, what we do and how you can help. We offer tours, we invite social groups, school groups and all others to visit, tour, volunteer.

Did you know we have a mobile Vet clinic coming on site once per month for spay and neuter needs, you sign up via their website, prepay and show, and it takes you less than an hour to complete this process. Did you know we foster animals, allowing those with short term problems to get care for their animals until you can return them to your family.

Did you know we have a program that you can take a cat or dog home for the day, run errands with you, go to the park, or anything you want and return them before the end of business day. This program is great for those that love animals yet can't take a pet full time. Great for you and great for the animal, they get out of the shelter for a day and the impact it has on them is a great site to see at the end of the day. Did you know we offer school children to come read to the animals, and we are starting a new program that musicians ( tenured and those learning ) can come play to the dogs because music soothes the savage beast.

Saturday Sept 6 we will be hosting our 50th anniversary party at the Auburn Outdoor theater on Center street. Live band, board members and shelter employees will be present to discuss any topics you want answers to, and if you have no questions just enjoy the live band. We welcome you to view our social media sites, come to the shelter and ask any questions you have. Again, our goal is to get animals off the street, fed and housed until we can find their forever home.

To all who volunteer, donate, and help with these programs, we couldn't do this without you, so thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Our cat Binx has been missing for about a week. He is a barn cat so he comes and goes as he pleases but this is the longest he has ever been away. He is the absolute sweetest boy there is - comes to his name when called. Almost all black but has the tiniest white patch on his chest. Missing from County Road 35 in Auburn.

Listen.
We don’t name them like this on purpose.
It just… happens.

There we were.
Minding our business.
Trying to survive kitten season like normal,
when in walks a litter of half-feral, extremely chaotic sewer goblins
from the actual water treatment plant.

So now we have:

💧 Potable – the only girl, and the only one with a name that doesn’t sound like a government file
🧪 The Safe Drinking Water Act – formal, professional, legally binding
🧬 pH – no last name, just vibes
☠️ Chlorine Please – a menace. Also, our favorite

They’re 3 to 4 months old.
Not spicy. Not snuggly.
Just… present.
The kind of cats that look at you like they definitely know how to start a small fire, but won’t. Unless.

They can be barn cats.
They can be indoor cats.
They can be little weird guys on your porch who never make eye contact.
They’ve got range.

We’ve had them for two weeks,
which is roughly 13 days longer than expected.
And now we’re at the “please adopt them before they unionize” stage.

No set adoption fee — donation of choice.
Take one. Take all four.
Rebrand them if you want, but just know you’ll be erasing history.

They’ve survived the infrastructure.
Now they just need someone with snacks and low expectations.

Come get your water babies.
Hydrate responsibly.

🧺 GIVE US THIS ONE. PLEASE. JUST THIS ONE. 🧺
We’ve had over 60 cats come in just in the past two months. But Goof Troop has been here for over 60 days.

She is, quite literally, our longest cat resident. And we have no idea why.

Goof Troop is sweet in the most genuine way. She’s a little shy for like… one minute. And then she’s curling into your hand, chirping for pets, and looking at you like you’re the first human to ever understand her.

She came to us from a trailer park with her kittens. She raised them. She did her time. And now? She’s just here. Waiting. Watching other cats come and go. Being soft. Being perfect. Being overlooked.

She doesn’t scream at you from her kennel. She doesn’t throw herself at the bars. She just sits patiently, hoping someone will notice her. And we’re starting to wonder if anyone ever will.

✨ She’s spayed, vaccinated, microchipped.
✨ She’d do great with a chill home and an adopter who’ll give her just a second to open up.
✨ She’s also the cat most likely to do that slow blink back at you like you’re her entire world.

We know we’ve got a lot of cats right now. We know we’re yelling about all of them. But this one really hurts. Because she’s been waiting the longest, and she’s already done everything right.

Don’t let her be the quiet one who gets left behind.
