This little grow out is not a smart one. He was raised with his Mom and used the automatic water system. Come weaning time he is still good with his grow out gang. Now that he is by himself he hits the stupid button and forgets. Gave him a bowl and he goes and drinks about a cup worth of water. I was cleaning cages and turned my back and the giant crock empty, his face soaked like he just decided to drown himself I get he was thirsty, but a cup of water is like drinking 3 gallons for us and his tiny size. People I would instantly suspect hyponutremia, hypokalemia and all sorts of other electrolyte mayhem. Sure enough 30 mins later he is like a drunk sailor can’t balance and legs out like he sliding into oblivion. Took him inside and gave him Pedilyte via syringe because its was all i could think of to get some electrolytesi to him. It has electrolytes and i dont have the skills for rabbit IV. Kept him warm and put him in a Tupperware bowl with a heat pad. Idea being if he keeps warm he won’t shiver and further use up any reserves. Thought for sure he would die. Woke up this morning and he had had the biggest p*e, excellent, his kidneys work, and he looks like he fell out of a tree hitting every branch on the way down but he is alive. He didn’t dare leave his bowl and i woke up to two little eyes staring at me as he was on my nightstand. He is eating a bunch of hay and pellets which is great. He is inside with Pooperazzi who got her a**s caught on a cage clip binkying around. I said if you live you two can have babies who get a brain cell from each of you. Rabbits trying to die in stupid ways.

Not my favorite part of rabbit raising. Many older does, failed grow outs and kits who just weren’t making the cut were culled. Dressed out 20 and another 30 culled for other uses. Livers looked good but the rest of the herd treated for coccidia just in case. (Minus the food ones) Have five larger ones getting picked up for a christmas dinner which they are the main course. Second round of worming next week. I actually have empty cages!

Back from Colusa! It was foggy and cold but we did well! Suprise it’s raining at home with more in the forecast.

This Dutch is poorly marked but has good type. Story of my life. Also just about every baby I checked on today was a screamer. I get I was drenched and looked bad, but I have feelings too.

It’s with a sad heart I announce the retirement of RDPR Charlie and RDPR Rowdy from our breeding program. Both out produced themselves and have sired numerous GC. Charlie himself earned his GC and is nephew to Rowdy. Rowdy at the age of 5 is getting to live out his days with us. Charlie too. Both boys said good bye to their testicles today and they got banded.

Today was angry rabbit day. Babies got tattoos and weaned. Everyone, except those who have a dinner appointment on Tuesday, got wormed.

Back safe from adventures at ARBA Convention. Have 5 new Dutch to settle and my two that I brought back. Little Pooperatzi grew like a w**d as well. Lots of litters to sort through and tattoo. Excited to be back with my herd and see what has been going on.

RDPR Augusta didn’t place in a highly competitive field of blue JR does. She still is great and I love her.

Pooparatzi’s plan all along was to earn the coveted if not completely full position of “house pet rabbit” when she injured her butt. She came to ARBA Convention not to compete, but to heal and get all the scritches. She is giving me all the kisses as well. Brat.
