Auburn Pet Clinic

Auburn Pet Clinic Dr. Wendy MacKinnon, a 2006 UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine graduate, has spent her career working in multi-doctor emergency and specialty hospitals.

In July of 2017, she purchased this well-established Auburn veterinary practice from Dr. Dan Rice, who had been in practice for more than 30 years. Dr. MacKinnon lives locally and feels honored to serve her community’s veterinary needs. She looks forward to continuing the legacy of Auburn Pet Clinic. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three young daughters, mountain biking, and leading her daughters’ Girl Scout troop.

Hey, friends—Chip here, Auburn Pet Clinic mascot. On duty.
You probably didn’t recognize me behind these cool shades. With all my summer gear. Not really ALL because there’s not enough space on this desk for my flippers and boogie board. Plus I was told “No go” on the hibachi. Serious disappointment. Something about fire regulations? I tried to explain that my sq**rt gun was a safety feature and I have excellent aim, but . . .
Anyway, I’m ready to ditch the umbrellas and get on with summer, aren’t you?
Backyard barbecues (with kids who drop stuff), road trips to the beach (wind in my ears!) and racing the waves—don’t get me started on the unfair issues with short (but quite muscular) legs. Frisbee tosses are a challenge, too. On the other hand, I rarely miss a Dorito that’s innocently wandered away from a beach blanket.
I’m still missing you all in the lobby! The clinic team tries to keep me in the loop about who’s coming and going from the parking lot. And if I tip my head just so, I can sometimes hear you: a familiar bark or meow. You probably hear me, too. Tap dancing on the desk. It’s not that loud with my summer flip flops. Just listen for the thump-whiff-slap sound. And my whistle: not easy with a pencil between my teeth.
So, just wanted to say hello. See if you have any questions, need an opinion from a cool doxie dude.
Oh, and one more thing: Look close, really close, at my photo and check out the reflection in my sunglasses. Yes, there. See it?
That’s Dr. Wendy. She says she was bending down to capture my best look. But . . .
I think we all know that she was ducking to avoid my quick-draw sq**rt gun.
Til next time,
Chip

Hi, Chip here.
Wait. That sounds like I’m offering you a Pringle.
Woof, back up:
My name is Chip.
Good looking (and cool) dachshund wrangling the Auburn Pet Clinic desk?
Right. I’m sure you’ve given me pat more than once. Hard to resist, of course. No one blames you. FYI, a chin scratch is great, too—and doesn’t rumple my fur as much. Putting my best paw forward is part of the job. Looking cool, not scratching in public, being okay with adoration. I know the drill. I’m a pro.
Anyway, speaking of chin scratches, I wanted to say that—woof—I really miss you all! I have my friends, Dr. Wendy, Dr. Sara & the super-duper clinic team, but I miss seeing the rest of my friends. You. All of you.
The waiting room is so empty right now. I get it, “physical distancing.” We’re all about safety and good care at Auburn Pet Clinic. But—woooooof, yip—even a cool dude gets lonely, right? Nobody sitting out front, my animal friends going in and out the back door? It’s hard not to howl, frankly. Even though that’s right up there on the no-no list with scratching and chewing the pencils.
I watch the door, listen for the buzzer, and do the occasional tap dance on the desk top (pretty great when my nails get long), and I wait. And wait.
I miss you.
So I’m going to do this blog, Chip’s Cookie. Say hi, let you know what’s going on, field comments, take questions. About myself, mostly. You know like my wardrobe choices, favorite pencil flavors, grooming tips. And some questions for you, too. Like: What do you think of me?
Sure, I could do all that.
In a very cool way.
So . . . I’m Chip.
Let’s hear from you, okay?
Woof.
