Cold Weather Info
Also please please keep in mind this may not be the guidelines that everyone follows HOWEVER this is what I as a business owner am comfortable with when responsible for your furry loved ones - questions feel free to ask.
General advice to dog owners as to when low temperatures become dangerous- information is compiled from vets - vet techs - and my own personal experiences when working with your furry family-
* At 45 degrees Fahrenheit: Dogs who are especially vulnerable to the cold (small, thin-coated, young, old, or sick dogs, for example) can feel uncomfortably chilled. As we all know 45 degrees for most dogs is completely fine when they have lived in NY their whole life - BUT- puppies, old doggos, sick doggos, thin coated dogs and low riders get real cold real fast.
* At 32 degrees Fahrenheit: Most dogs begin to be at risk for cold-related health problems, such as hypothermia and frostbite.
* At 20 degrees Fahrenheit: Even the most cold-tolerant dogs should be closely monitored when outside.
* Please keep in mind windchill also plays a large factor in my decision for outdoor walks with your pups as well- they will always get potty breaks and lots of love.
When the temperature falls to 20Β°F or lower, outdoor time should be limited to short bathroom breaks or brief walks. However, dogs showing signs of discomfort should be immediately brought into a warmer spot.
Unless your dog is specifically trained for winter sporting - we will be doing potty breaks and then playing fetch or snuggling inside for your visits - at times regardless of your pup being trained for cold weather sporting I too would still like to keep my fingers- toes & nose
