This is my ten year old daughter with her 19 yo former broodmare . This horse has a slight swayback and her pelvis tilts forward. It’s easy to post the pretty pics and the perfect moments in time but I want to share the struggles…. Asking this horse to work over her back, engage and lift when there is nothing to lift is near physicallly impossible. But she’s trying. Jaylen is asking her to take some contact and stretch down- even though sacrificing equitation- and the little mare tries. We will continue to work kindly and slowly to see how much improvement we can achieve given the conformational obstacles - and we will work on EQ tomorrow.

Having the right trainer can significantly help or hinder your riding progress.

A good trainer will help you get to where you want to be quicker, with fewer mistakes, detours, and frustrations along the way.

At best, a poor trainer will not aid your progression, and you will plateau, feeling like you are not improving. At worst, a poor trainer can send you backward and create faults in your riding and horse’s way of going that, sadly, cannot always be corrected.

In short, who you choose as a trainer is probably one of the most impactful decisions you can make regarding your future riding success.

“It’s raining are we still on for a lesson today?” “It’s too hot to ride can we reschedule? Yes and No. you should be here. I love the term “pony ride program”. You’ll hear me say it a lot. That refers to lesson barns that do nothing more than plop a kid on a horse and put them in an arena for 30 to 45 minutes and then send them on their way. We don’t do that here.Your education here will not always be on top of the horse. So on those days when it’s not suitable to ride, always show up for your lesson. So much more fun and education to be had here 😘

Happy August! Reminding everyone that your tuition is due today. Thank you!
