On August 31, my sweet client, Butters, crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I was grateful I was able to kiss his soft blonde fur, tell him what a great boy he was and how much I would miss him the day before he left this earth.
I met Butters and his sister Ginger in 2012 when they were just 5 years old. They began staying with me on weekends while their Daddy Doug played in his band.
I quickly fell in love with Butters on that first weekend in 2012. Number one, he was a Chihuahua, my favorite breed ☺️. He was sweet, playful, loved to squeak his toys and always had to be in my lap (or Jamie’s). He was the best snuggle buddy. He got along great with my pack-Lucy, Bleu and Maggie and later additions-Rani, Xena and Gator. He went with the flow, no matter where I lived. He was the coolest kid.
This weekend is the first he is not here and I have his sweet sister, Ginger who is currently battling bladder cancer but with chemo, is beating it thus far. The tumor is shrinking thank goodness.
Butters has had a rough nine months; he had a toe removed due to a mass and later had eye surgery. We thought all was good but in the last two weeks he started eating less and less, we saw changes in his mobility, he seemed tired, his light was dimming….sadly, test showed his kidneys were failing.
I keep expecting him to walk around the corner, prancing about, squeaking a toy in excitement as I make his breakfast/dinner, looking at me with one ear up, one flopping down. I miss him sleeping snuggly against my leg throughout the night. Life won’t be the same without you…I miss you my little Butterman. Run free my sweet blonde boy.
