🍄 Fungi or Foe?
Protect Your Dog from Toxic Mushrooms
With warmer weather and yard mushrooms popping up overnight, it’s important to remember that some mushrooms can be highly toxic—even deadly—to dogs.
🐾 Dogs are naturally curious and may eat mushrooms while exploring the yard, on walks, or at the park. Unfortunately, it can be nearly impossible to tell a toxic mushroom from a harmless one without expert identification.
Signs of mushroom toxicity may include:
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Excessive drooling
• Weakness or lethargy
• Tremors or seizures
• Difficulty walking
• Yellowing of the eyes or gums (liver damage)
⏰ If you suspect your dog has eaten a mushroom, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital immediately.
Prevention tips:
✔️ Check your yard regularly and remove mushrooms as they appear.
✔️ Keep dogs supervised outdoors.
✔️ Teach a strong “leave it” command.
When it comes to mushrooms, it’s better to be safe than sorry. A quick call could save a life.
📸 If possible, take a photo of the mushroom or bring a sample with you to the veterinarian to help with identification.
