🚨 Important Wildlife Safety Reminder 🚨
At VCA Adams Animal Hospital, we care deeply about the safety of both animals and people. Recently, we've had concerns about people attempting to handle wildlife—especially bats—and we want to remind everyone about the dangers associated with rabies contamination.
🦇 Why should you avoid touching wildlife?
Wild animals, including bats, are known to carry diseases like rabies, which can be transmitted through bites or scratches. Rabies is a serious and often fatal disease that affects the nervous system and can be spread to humans and pets.
❌ Do NOT touch or handle wildlife
If you come across a bat or any wild animal, please do NOT try to touch it. Wild animals are unpredictable and may act aggressively if they feel threatened. Handling them can put you, your pets, and others at risk for disease.
📞 What should you do?
If you find a bat or any wild animal that appears to be in distress or is acting abnormally (like being out during the day or appearing disoriented), please call animal control or a local wildlife rescue organization immediately. Trained professionals know how to handle these situations safely and can assess whether there’s any risk of rabies exposure.
💡 Protect yourself and your loved ones
If you have any concerns or think you might have been exposed to a wild animal, seek medical attention right away. Rabies is treatable if caught early, but prompt action is crucial.
Let’s all do our part to keep both wildlife and our community safe! 🐾
