🔥HEAT ADVISORY🔥

Phew! It's HOT! 🥵 With this week's heat advisory, we wanted to share a few tips to help you and your pets beat the heat!
If you plan to take your pet outside, please take the necessary precautions to ensure you and your pet's health. Always be sure there is protection from the heat and sun, plenty of fresh, cold water, and NEVER leave your pet in the car unattended. Try to limit excessive exercise while outside as it can overheat you and your pet, and watch out for the hot asphalt! ☀️

Spring is in the air and so are the mosquitos! 🦟 April is National Heartworm Awareness Month because this is when mosquitos start becoming active in many regions of the United States. Heartworms are spread through infected mosquitos when they bite an animal, which spreads through their bloodstream. If left untreated, it can damage their vital organs, especially their heart. ♥️ The best way to prevent heartworms is to give prevention year round, even during the colder months!

Our Story

Hawthorne Animal Hospital offers compassionate care for you pets. Dr. Beth Yash, owner and practitioner, is a 2010 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She has a special interest in preventative care and aging, geriatric pet care.

Since March 2019, the caring, compassionate and highly skilled staff at Hawthorne Animal Hospital have been caring for the people and pets of Athens, GA, providing top-notch veterinary care to our beloved patients and exceptional service to our valued clients. We are a full service animal healthcare facility with a focus on preventative care and client education and our patients include cats, dogs and pocket pets. Whatever your pet’s veterinary care needs, we’re prepared to meet them and we look forward to welcoming you to our office soon! Prior to Hawthorne Animal Hospital, our location at 530 Hawthorne Avenue was home to Classic City Cat Clinic and The Cat and Dog Clinic. The late Dr. Jeffrey Conrad was the previous owner. Dr. Conrad was a University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine graduate and served in the U.S. Air Force for over 13 years as an electronics engineering officer. Dr. Conrad strongly believed that keeping pets healthy requires a close, cooperative effort between pet owners and their veterinarian. He strove to help educate pet owners and provide the best care for their pets through preventative medicine. Dr. Yash hopes to carry on his legacy!
