Helped find another one after trying to build up our confidence again. The dog pulled like we were in the Iditarod. Tons of fun!

Not all tracks end well...
We had to give up on one today that a hunter had gut shot last night. He backed out to give the deer time but it just didn't work out.
We learned a ton though.
This track had good blood to start with pools every so often. The deer then did a small switchback before it crossed a river. With wet feet we picked it up on the far bank and tracked about another 300 yds with about 8 beds. Less and less blood in each bed though.
Eventually, Oak couldn't follow anymore scent out of the last bed.
This sucked.

This might have been a really easy, short track. But it will be my favorite of the year!
My boy shot his first buck tonight and even though we saw it go down, we still put Oak on the track.

This past summer, Oakley and I went to a seminar put on by our Northcentral WI NAVHDA chapter. The seminar was on bloodtracking of wounded game. Very informative and interesting. At the end of the day we had the opportunity to test our skills on a set track. Oakley passed his UBT I test that day.
Fast forward to this fall and I want to keep this ball rolling. I have now officially joined the United Blood Trackers. If you go on their site and search for a tracker, we now show on their page.
I'm excited to get in the woods even more with the dog.

I can't say we are great at this tracking thing, but this dog is good.
I can't be happier how Oak's first bear track turned out!
A day old track with lots of distracting scents at the start. Then throw in a few birds to the confusion and a creek crossing...
The dog just keeps impressing me.
