Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes carrying heartworm larvae. When an infected mosquito bites an unprotected dog, there is nearly a 100% chance that the dog will become infected. Once infected, your dog can also transmit heartworm infection to other pets.

💜 Heartworm disease is among the most common and deadly illnesses in dogs.
💜 Each year, over a million dogs in the U.S. contract heartworm disease, despite it being easy to prevent.
💜 Dogs infected with heartworms can be found in all 50 states.
💜 Heartworms are spread through mosquitoes. If you notice, swat at, or have been bitten by mosquitoes in your area, your dog is at risk.
💜 Although heartworm disease in dogs is treatable, the treatment can be expensive and time-consuming. Prevention is key!
