Tired of private practice, and working on Saturdays? Would you prefer a Monday through Friday schedule ?? Then Come Join Our Team !! Kincheloe Clinic South in Ashland, Virginia is seeking Veterinary Assistants to join our busy high-volume, high-quality Spay/Neuter Clinic.

Our environment is FAST PACED with a staff committed to reducing animal homelessness. The qualified candidates must be a reliable team player and be able to assist in high-volume spay/neuter procedures (35+ per day) and wellness appointments. Hours are typically 7:30am-5:00pm 2 to 3 days per week. (Hours can vary.) EXPERIENCE in a veterinary clinic or other professional experience working with animals is A DEFINITE PLUS.

YOU can help us achieve the day when there will be No More Homeless Pets !!

Responsibilities

Support veterinary staff with animal handling, restraint, and positioning during examinations and procedures
Assist with medication administration, including injections and oral treatments, following proper aseptic techniques
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kennels, treatment areas, and equipment to promote animal health and safety
Handle pet care tasks such as feeding, bathing, grooming, and monitoring behavior to ensure animals are comfortable and stress-free
Prepare animals for surgery or diagnostic tests by collecting samples or setting up necessary tools and supplies
Support front desk duties including appointment scheduling, client communication, and record keeping to enhance client service experience
Assist with laboratory procedures such as sample collection, processing, and basic testing under supervision
Demonstrate knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and restraint techniques to support clinical workflows
Requirements

Prior kennel experience or animal husbandry background is highly preferred
Experience working in a veterinary clinic or with veterinary technicians is advantageous
Familiarity with veterinary critical care procedures and laboratory work is a plus
Proven ability to handle animals safely across different species including dogs, cats, and equines
Strong understanding of pet care practices, animal handling techniques, and pet safety protocols
Knowledge of aseptic techniques, medication administration, and animal catheterization procedures
Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members effectively
Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail

We are booked booked booked for the next 2 days ! Remember walk ferals are never promised and that means you need to be prepared to hold these cats overnight or rerelease and catch them !! THERE IS NO I REPEAT NO ARGUING WITH STAFF IF YOUR WALK IN FERAL DOESNT GET DONE AND PLEASE DONT TRY TO BRIBE STAFF AND ASK HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO MAKE SURE YOURS GET DONE !!! Please remember respect goes a long way we are a small staff trying to help animals and do our job !!

Weight limits !!! Let's talk .....
We have weight limits here for both ranges. In dogs we generally do not accept anything over 100ish lbs. Now that doesn't mean if our vet deems your 30 lb overweight dog not safe for surgery she does have a right to decline your pup for its safety. If our vet sees a pup come in and is wayyyyyy underweight our vet again has the right to say for your pets safety please take it home get it a little healthier and then we will do surgery.
Same for public cats . Our low weight is 3 lbs . That is where the vet looks for your kitten to be safe to have surgery and the anesthesia it needs. We do not do this to be mean or to say anything other than we want your pet to be safe. We try to make sure all pets are safe in this building . We put out toys for bored kittens in cages . Many times owners receive pictures and updates during the day just as an ease of mind.

If there is ever a doubt when you book your appointment please stop by we have taken animals to scales , measured them to make sure they fit on the table and just looked over them for you. Please understand we do try . Surgery is always a risk just like with humans but we want to give your pet the best chance of a wonderful experience and easiest recovery possible.

Walk in feral appointments are available on 7/9!! As always please remember these appointments are not promised. We do as many as we can . Cats must come in a trap and 1 cat per trap. The fee is 60 dollars per cat which covers ear tip, rabies and the cat getting fixed. Also please remember to be nice to staff , use your manners and speak respectfully. We do our best to get every trapped cat done when you bring them in!

We will be able to take walk-in ferals this week on the 25th and 26th this week. Happy trapping. Remember it's never promised but we try our hardest to get them done. Cats must come in a trap and no arguing with staff if your cat doesn't get done.
