Rocko “The Beauty Queen” Rama and Shane did it again! They were the 2024 IRCHA open futurity champions, and now they’re the 2025 IRCHA open derby champions. The pair continues to impress us. Pretty cool to have raised such a good one!

It takes a village. Last week we weaned, this week we said goodbye to one recip mare and hello to four others. Thanks for helping with the exchange, not sure what we would have done without your help!

Apparently our midwifery skills weren’t wanted this year because we missed this one too. I would say I got to miss all the gross parts again, but I was responsible for putting the placenta in a bucket. Shout out to the recip for not killing me.

Spent the week in Paso Robles for the California Reined Cow Horse Association Spring Derby. What a well-run show!

Eli was very good throughout. We ended up winning the nonpro and intermediate nonpro derbies, bringing home a couple of buckles and a total of $10,750. Not a bad start to the year!

Thanks Titus Covington Performance Horses for getting Eli prepared and for the excellent coaching!!! What a great crew!

I have added a picture of me on Eli’s mom, Flo, from 10 years ago. Same arena, but this was at the NRCHA derby, before it got moved to Scottsdale. Flo and I had a horrible herd score in the prelims thanks to a rotten cow, but somehow managed to make the finals with a 220.5 down the fence. We ended up winning the nonpro derby that year. I still wear the buckle we won from that event. That was a great year for us. We lost Flo a few years ago and miss her dearly. Eli reminds me of her in so many great ways.
