C. A. Equestrian

C. A. Equestrian C. A. E. is an equestrian training program focusing on producing equine athletes and riders.

A little about myself:
I have been an event rider since my first lesson at age 8. Getting my start through the United States Pony Club, I have a strong background in horse management and a "horse comes first" outlook. With wins at every level along the way, I have my sights set on progressing my own personal skills and moving up to the advanced level of the sport. I hope to continue successfully training young horses and teaching students of all ages about this sport that has captured my heart.

Flat work Friday for team 🤩 and all my boys were feeling incredible thanks to Southern Equine Massage ❤️ Each month we do bodywork, massage and cold laser to keep the horses performing their best.

How often should you ride?

To answer this question, I think it’s best to think about why you ride. Is this a hobby or a sport for you?

If you’re competing anything from cross rails to 2’3”, it’s a great rule of thumb to ride 3-4 days a week. This is all about you and your horse getting enough practice and you both being strong!
If you’re competing 2’6” and higher, you’ll want to try to ride a minimum of 4 days a week or more. Give yourself some variety; flat ride, hack day, polework, jump school, fitness rides, stretchy flat, the list goes on!

If this is a hobby and you’re not competing, enjoy the ride! Don’t feel guilty about meeting someone else’s ideas of fitness, but consider that you’re meeting your health goals for your horse and yourself. Make sure that the nutrition and work are on the same page! Fluffy doesn’t need 20 lbs of grain if fluffy can’t fit through the barn door and doesn’t do his conditioning 😂

It’s that time of year! As our summer team starts classes, we are looking for some new barn help some weekends but consistently on Mondays. The right candidate should have experience feeding and handling horses. We will provide paid training days to catch you up to speed on our horses, where everything is, and how we do things. Training days are as many or as few as you need to feel confident 🤩
⌚️ Hours are from 8-12 and 1-5:30 with an hour for lunch at noon
🧹 Daily tasks include feeding grain and hay, refreshing waters, turning in and out, blanketing, stall cleaning, rescooping feeds, blowing the aisle, and general barn cleaning.
🛠️ Some other jobs may include minor fence repair and minor farm maintenance (some w**d eating or w**d spraying), tidying the hay shop area and the ATVs etc.
💵 Pay is $14 per hour, $11 per hour for training days
🚗 Candidate should have reliable transportation, pass a drug test, and agree to not smoke at the barn 🩷

We are really a team atmosphere at Stony River Farm. I want to surround myself with fellow equestrians who enjoy working outside and caring for these cool sport horses. We are a boutique size barn and prioritize the best and safest care for our equine partners. We produce horses for jumpers, three day eventing, and dressage and have horses of all ages from foals to retirement. We provide free educational opportunities in the form of coaching and free horse management clinics for our team 📖 If this sounds like a great fit for you, we’d love to hear from you! Let’s talk about heat!

I know that post with the “feels like” temp and the heat index is going around right about now. And that’s super important, please read that and education yourself.
👉🏼BUT 👇🏼

✨ If you want to horse show during the summer, you don’t get to pick your ride times✨

So should you be horse showing?
I have an older client who lets me know a week in advanced that it will be too hot for her to be out. Super! Stay safe and stay inside!
☀️ Be honest with yourself about your limits in all weather conditions. If you don’t do heat well, don’t schedule a lesson to then call/text hours before to cancel.
🐎 Be honest with yourself about your horse. If they don’t do heat well, body clip them, put them on a sweating supplement, or sponge/hose them with cold water before you start your ride.
❤️‍🔥 I think it’s really important to note… guess who can’t reschedule because it’s hot? Your barn staff… your vet… your farrier. Dear lord. The poor farriers right now ❤️‍🔥
