The little black & white heeler mix came from this abundant batch of puppies. Why is she at a rehab Foster with 80lb dogs? Because already in her short little life she has known fear, hunger, trauma. Yesterday, WE PAID to spay the 2 female dogs that recently gave birth to 13 Catahoula mix puppies we rescued a few weeks ago. The spay/neuter fee at the ASPCA in Asheville is $65! For comparison, that's roughly the equivalent to the cost of a CARTON OF CI******ES. 🚬
On the other hand, the cost of caring for 13 puppies totals around $200.00 per pup, or $2600!!! which includes:
$100 for vaccines
$65 for spay/neuter
$20 for a microchip
$60 for flea/tick medication and dewormer
Not to mention the cost of food OR the time, effort, volunteers and staff it takes to place 13 puppies into caring homes. 🐾❤ More than $2600 and countless hours rescuing 13 puppies could have been spared for less than the price of a couple of cartons of ci******es. This is Daniel! He's a large breed mix, about 4 months old. Very clever and attuned. He's great with other dogs, probably fine with cats.

He doesn’t know me yet.
Not really. Not the way dogs can know their people the bone-deep kind of knowing.
But he fell asleep like this.
Head on the gear shift like it was the softest pillow in the world.
Like it was home.
And I didn’t dare move.
Because what you’re seeing isn’t just a nap.
It’s a soul unclenching.
He’s tired not just sleepy, but exhausted from fear. From waiting. From being forgotten.
Now? He sleeps without worry.
Because he’s starting to believe that this time, he doesn’t have to leave.
That this time… maybe he gets to stay.
And yeah maybe I technically adopted him.
But the way he looks at me like I’m the safest place on Earth?
That’s the kind of rescue that goes both ways.
I wanted to mark this moment somehow. Not with a big gesture with something small, quiet, meaningful.
So I found a girl on the Tedooo app who handmakes leather dog tags. I sent her his photo and a message that just said:
“He’s home now.”
She sent back a tag that says exactly that.
He wears it on every walk.
Not because he understands the words but because I do.
And every time I see it, I remember:
Trust is built in tiny pieces. And this is one of them.
If you're reading this after a hard goodbye, or a long wait, or a broken heart… this is your reminder.
Sometimes healing looks like a nap on the gear shift.
Sometimes it looks like a name tag that says “Home.”
And sometimes, it looks like a second chance… curled up right beside you.

Meet Scout. 8yo bully mix.

This guy has a busy schedule. He needs to chew on a bone and then have a nap. No time for interviews. But if you want to meet him, he'll work you in. He's a lover, and his smile will knock your socks off.

Check out Axel! He's a big goofy derp. If you have been wishing for a derp, perhaps luck has found you today.

Axel is fully vetted, neutered, chipped vaccinated, hw negative. He's about 5yo, shepherd x plott hound. He has been on the road with Cirque d'Soleil, and missed out on learning to play with friends. He is with us to expand his behavior vocabulary, and learn to interact a little more easily. He's really a smart boy and exhibits no aggression. He just needs a pocket to live in. Perhaps your pocket?

Canela is SUCH A SWEETHEART! She's ready to start loving her forever family. She's is in foster with us to build a little confidence.

She is a 1 year old, yellow lab mix. Very photogenic with her black lines and wry expressions. She really loves dogs and is learning about friends and toys and pillows and everything. She's a very smart, incredibly sweet girl. You should definitely meet her.

She is fully house trained, crate trained, spayed, chipped, vaxxed and hw negative. She's available for adoption through Rusty's Legacy. Please reach out for further info!

**ADOPTED!**

We are happy to have Chevy with us for training. He needed socialization to overcome some greeting reactivity, and as usual, the pack accomplished that within a day. We refined his house training and people skills (no jumping). Then we worked on his hound brain; compulsive hunting and ignorance of barriers. We are working recall, and leash skills. Chev is doing great!! He's a very sweet boy, he loves people and other dogs. He also has primo tracking skills. Please reach out if you'd like to meet him.

He's fully vetted, neutered, chipped, hw negative and current on all vaccines including rabies. He is available for adoption through Rusty's Legacy . His fee is $150 and he comes with training support and discounts on daycare and boarding.

Our handsome boy Chevy is BACK 😢
He got along great with the 2 other dogs in the home and had a ball roaming the 3 plus acres on the property.
But, Chevy spent all day hunting field mice and was not too interested in hanging around the house. This was not expected and Chevy needs a new home. 🐾❤ The couple that gave him a try could not be nicer, Chevy is just not the right dog for them. They will find another rescue dog that is a better fit! (No judgemental comments please)
He can be a nice addition to your pack, or he can be an only dog. He would LOVE a fenced yard where he can run and play, or fenced acreage when he has the freedom to roam. He's a good mouser if you have a field or a barn!
He has come a long way and he's a good boy, with nice manners, that gets along with other dogs, and we discovered that he's okay with CATS!!
